Madison High's prom took place at the Sugar Land Marriot.

Regardless of how we feel about dress codes, the Supreme Court has consistently upheld the right of schools to enforce them. I am guessing the student knew she was violating multiple rules and thought she could get away with it because of the occasion. If the prom had been held off school grounds she may have had a legitimate argument, but on school grounds they had every right to enforce their dress code.

HM it was held off school property... it was at the Marriot.

While I think her dress was inappropriate, unless there were explicit rules handed out to the students (and a discussion of these rules led by school officials to the students) I believe the school had no right to kick her out of her prom. Also, I just don't understand why officials would not compromise with her, especially considering the occasion...

Sadly, in recent years I've seen MANY a San Francisco teenager wearing this type of "gown" to proms and homecomings....usually escorted by some skeevy-looking boy in white tails, metallic purple cummerbund and bow tie, and a white top hat. This isn't at all unusual around here at prom time.

Actually, I watched a video on the news page and they even featured the dress code flyer that they had distributed, so there were explicit rules that they knew about.

Interesting... Well then, the girl was an idiot:upsidedown: Still, I can't help feeling bad for her, since it was prom. But she knew better, so she got what she deserved.

The dress is so tacky. I believe in dress codes (I don't mean to offend anyone who doesn't) for school. It helps to keep people from wearing crazy things such as this, and making a scene. I don't feel that bad for her not being let into her prom since there were explicit dress codes that were given to the students for the event. She should have read them and understood them before selecting her "dress".

she tried to cover up to get in but they wouldnt let her.. no matter how bad that dress is.. i dont think that calling the cops was the right thing to do.. i want to know what happened after!!

she tried to hike up the train to over her midriff; but that wouldn't have turned it into a proper dress, IMO.

I think they called the cops after she got beliigerent - she tried to insist on a refund because they woudln't let her in.

that girl is just an idiot. she knew better. i hate how the news tries to twist this into "she got arrested for dressing like a street worker." it's more like she got arrested because she started fighting with school officials. serves her right. would she want her daughter dressing like that?

To each his/her own, maybe she did'nt have the resources or the proper directive on how to dress, maybe her family members dress like that so she thought it was ok, maybe someone made the "dress" because she could'nt afford one, maybe her date asked her to wear that because he thought it was hot, maybe the school officials were jealous that they can't wear their stomach's out, I don't like the dress either, but maybe everyone should just keep their opinions to themselves sometimes, you never know what a person is going through, none of us went out and bought her a dress did we? So like what is the point of this thread:supacool:

I think the school should have let her change or given her money back though. It is not right to keep her money for prom if she can't attend. I also agree that should have followed the dress code. They should have let her cover up or something.
