Wearing white after Labor Day?

Apart from my work blouses, I almost never wear white in either clothing or bags because I am a spill-machine. If it`s not cooking splatter, a drink or marks from a chair I sit down in, it`s something as unexpected as some kind of transfer from a shopping trolley.

I am lucky enough to live in beautiful sunny Miami, so I can wear white every day of the year if I want 
I know the rule shouldn't matter...it's silly, really. But I still can't get my mother's voice out of my mind telling me not to wear white before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. (sigh)
For some reason, I have no problem breaking out the white around the second week of May. I just can't make myself do it after Labor Day.
the "No White after Labor Day" rule is pretty non-existene nowadays -- open up any fashion magazine, and they'll tell you white is hot year round -- of course, there are some who just can't bring themselves to do it or feel uncomfortable, but I'm a big believer in wearing/carrying what you want WHENEVER you want -- as long as it makes happy -- I actually just got a white YSL w/black leather trim that I was concerned about (mainly because it's coated canvas & not leather) -- but almost everyone agreed it would be ok to carry year round (altho I wouldn't wear white in the middle of a blizzard or snowstorm -- way too messy w/a that salt and dirt!!)
Why not, I say........who made up this rule anyway? And how long have we been adhering to it? Seems quite old fashioned to me.

I agree! There may be a lot of "rules" I have to follow in this life, but there are 2 things for sure that no one else is going to have any input on with me: I eat what I want and wear what I want! 
What do you think about this canvas Lily? (sorry at work, had to borrow a pic from *bay) I just picked it up last weekend at the outlet and am not sure if I should hold off until next spring to carry it. I'm in CT - but it's sunny quite a bit of the time even though freezing in the winter. I'm just not sure if the canvas and white patent is just too "warm weather" for fall/winter?
Not wearing a white bag because of a time of year or holiday is now an antiquated and out-of-date idea, and has been for some time. White (and black) are always in! See this thread for more discussion:
