Wearing white after Labor Day?

As Labor Day approaches, I dread the idea of putting away my beloved Mandy for the rest of the year. :crybaby:

So what are your thoughts on wearing white after Labor Day? I know it's an ancient fashion rule and off-white might not count *crosses fingers* but could this mean it's time for a new purchase?

What not to wear says " Its ok to wear white after labour day"

If its an off white, I think you're fine to wear it year round. Also, where you live may matter. I live in Phoenix so we really don't have a winter. I plan to wear my white Ali off and on year round. The white Ali is more of an off white not stark white.

You can absolutely wear white in the fall/winter! Especially since you can call it "winter white". LOL! It's not like they don't come out with white clothes and accessories during those seasons. Personally I don't like that rule.

If a bag is a true white bag, I'll still wear it after Labor Day but only while the weather is still warm enough to wear lighter-weight "summer" clothing. Where I live, that's usually through the first week of October. After that, I would consider bone or creme if it went with my outfit, but not an actual white.

Its 2008, not 1958....I'm sure you'll be in good company wearing white this winter~

This has always been my thought on this subject as well.

This rule is from the 40's and 50's. My Mother's generation. When women were never seen in public in pants. Never seen without their girdles and hose (stockings) etc. I've often found it strange that this outdated rule still seems to carry some amount of weight.

My newest fall coat is a knee length crisp white leather and it's gorgeous!

I'm not comfortable with it, I still hear my mom "No white after Labor Day"!

I think it depends on a number of factors. If my outfit was black and white, I'd do it. If the shade of white was a true winter white, probably. If the bag or accessory was in a traditional "summer" material like straw, no. If my outfit was in a material like tweed, no way. I think the white leather coat that someone mentioned earlier is a good example of how white can be worn in fall and winter successfully - the material makes the difference in this case.
