Was happy with my holiday decision until I received some opinions on it..

I love when you chime in Ame I was strongly debating on messaging you with detailed pics to see what you thought but didn't want to bother you during the holiday week! I'm going to try this tonight!! Many thanks!!

Ultimately if it's not as great after a serious cleaning, then you know it's really not worth keeping. It's not THAT overpriced, considering it's platinum, frankly, but if the stones aren't doing it, then it's not worth keeping.

Obviously if you're wearing it where it will get touched by your skin, and therefore your skin's natural oils, it's going to get dull quickly. That's the way it goes, diamonds get gunky fast when touched.

Wow.. Ive been searching for arrow necklaces. Both are very nice..can I ask how much was the rubedo rose gold one? Not on our aussie site either. Ta

silver- 175
rubedo- 350
rosegold- 1300
platinum- 1500

sorry i dont know how much bracelet cost in rosegold and platinum but I'd guess it would be only a couple hundred less than the necklace version. (i am in the US)

Thanks. Didnt realise comes in silver too!!

actually it also was going to come in a pearl bracelet- i was SO excited and then they pulled the item from stock before i could see a true picture of it :( I hope to one day pair the arrow with more zeigfeld items like the tassel necklace or the pearls... even if it isn't from Tiffany. The diamond ones are part of the Jazz collection though so if they get confused just specify the collection.

I love your platinum pave, am personally not so much of a fan of the rubedo but I understand that was a gift and it depends on your taste. I do think that platinum as a metal has a more understated look, not so shiny but many, including me, love that. You will find the same with antiques, they will not sparkle as much (sometimes, as it is not always the case), however, me personally, hate dirty metal and stones and actually clean my antiques thoroughly as well. Most the time I use dishsoap and a toothbrush although you can actually microwave diamond and platinum in water mixed with dishsoap, it works similarly as an ultrasonic. I do have an ultrasonic myself but find that unless they are really good, heavy duty machines, they do not work as effectively as hand cleaning with toothbrush and dishsoap which will help even really dirty antique jewelry. Many times the lack of sparkle (brilliance) in diamonds comes from them being disgustingly dirty (sorry) and not so much the cut, or not only the cut itself. Diamonds should be cleaned on a daily basis when possible but at least every three to four days, as after a mere three day period the light return is reduced by as much as 40 %. This is a huge difference and even the best cut diamonds will suffer greatly from it. Diamonds should be maintained and so should jewelry. We wash our clothes, clean our shoes, jewelry is much the same. Nothing is as disappointing as dirty diamond jewelry, they look tacky to be honest. You were probably sold a piece without first cleaning it, perhaps due to the holiday rush but it should have never happened. I think that now after cleaning it looks great but it is up to you, you can just keep the rubedo and get a different diamond piece. The price is typical of Tiffany and the like, you pay for the name, some are willing to and some are not, it is a personal choice what you spend on. I have mostly non branded pieces but have one branded piece as well. I do have to say that oftentimes good brands will warrant quality for many years to come but you can get superb workmanship from no brands too and sometimes the name does not guarantee quality as to workmanship.

Oh and also agreed, if I was to ever pay full price for a branded jewel, it would be a Panthere, they are truly amazing. So if you are debating, by all means go with Cartier, they are on a different level, the workmanship on the Panthere pieces is truly outstanding. I am in love with the bracelets. So if I was willing to pay the huge overhead, it would surely be Panthere. Then I would say save for that, especially if it is your heart's desire.

thank you for your post, i agree and did not know they get so dirty so quickly-- you microwave the piece in the water + soap?

You know I was surprised too but a gemologist colleague told me to do that, she has a lab, I live in Europe and her lab is the only one in that region of Europe and she is really good, when in doubt I go to her like many others. She actually uses heavy duty ultrasounds but advised to do this at home, have never tried but I assume microwave must produce a similar effect to ultrasound, would only try this on gold and diamonds, not colored stones, etc. but as it is I have so far stuck with the toothbrush or ultrasonic methods. Really if you do daily cleaning you should only need a toothbrush and dishsoap and rinse well, this applies to new items too, if you do not allow your jewelry to get dirty then you have no problem.
