I guess you learn something new everyday. I had no idea about one time cc numbers. Wow thanks for sharing. That is a mess. I agree with others. You should call and report this to Rue LaLa.

I thought your PC might have "Trojan" software or "spy software" somehow. My hubby also got charged for $29 dating service two month ago for one time CC # , and he didn't notice it until week ago, his CC called to ask if he just paid for "$800 for yahoo personal" ( dating service also ), of course he did not !

So I think using CC will have some risk, it doesn't mean the merchant is stolen your info with CC, but you will always have the CC protection.

Someone slapped my CC with $100 Skype also, but it was resolve by my Citi Card.

Exactly! That's why it's so important to use extreme caution before making threads like this. Any slezoid with the right (wrong???!!) code cracking software can get to your credit card info. Doesn't mean it was one specific merchant or one specific person.

Thankfully, they weren't able to actually rip me off. The one time use numbers really saved me on this one.

They can't actually use it. But whoever gets a hold of the number can't tell if it is a "real" number or one time use, so they try to use it. That is what my bank picked up on. I just wanted to mention it in case folks gave that merchant their regular card number.

The crooks actually attempted only small charges in my case. The person at the bank suggested that may have been their way of "feeling out" whether the number was good before going for a bigger hit.

Yep that is exactly what they do. I was a victim of fraud 3 years ago. Thief maxed out my card to the tune of 15k. Got my statement and saw little charges like a dollar or so. Then it was full stream ahead with 3K one day and 2 K the next and onward. Thank goodness the CC company did not leave me liable for them. I was so worried and stressed. Off to find out where and how I can get one use credit card for the little purchases I make here and there.

Omg..thanks for posting this! I am so glad that I use a virtual cc number every time I shop online. Glad to hear that it actually works. Thanks goodness the culprits didn't get away with it!

It is a service offered by the bank. I know Bank of America and Citi Bank both offer it.

Wow, thank you for the heads-up! I had no idea banks offered this service. I am so going to use it from now on. This is such a valuable tip.

***edit***

Is someone able to tell me how they could get Bank of America to generate those one-time use card numbers? I contacted their customer service via online chat and the person had aboslutely no idea what I was talking about and was useless.
