Wallet - should you buy high-end or low end?

LV makes really good wallets to last. I have a prada saffiano wallet but honestly, the gold hardware has worn off and the leather has lost its shine as of before. But for LV, you can never tell if you really take care of it.

Middle-high end. I don't switch wallets often, but I do switch my bags often, so I need a good quality, gorgeous wallet that will stand the test of time and that I won't get sick of. I'm currently using a Chanel cardholder, which I love, but it's not big enough for all my cards/cash/etc. I need a new wallet right now, actually, but lack the funds (because I've been spending them on fall bags -- oops!)....

That said, while it needs to be good quality, the wallet can't be more expensive than the bag. No way!

I say both, which ever suits your needs. Folding or zippered, enough slots for various information papers, cards and cash. Gucci has nice wallets i admit, Rebecca Minkoff has nice ones, Kipling, and Fossil.

Personally I have one from rebecca and two from kipling and fossil respectively.

It is very very tough to wear out a Kipling!!!

It really depends on your plans for the wallet and how much money you budget. If you have a lot budgeted, you can do whatever you want and buy as many high middle low end wallets and switch as you please. If not then it's really a criteria question. Why do you want a high end wallet? Why do you want a low end wallet?

Does your idea of high end wallet equate to "expensive with brand name" or "expensive with good quality" or "just good quality"?

At any rate, like what everyone else is saying, get what you like based on your budget and your plans for it.

I don't ever switch wallets so I opted for something durable and a design that I don't consider trendy. My ferragamo (http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524445353339&bmUID=k8OFmfw) has been with me for 5 years and it looks brand new. Also, i sometimes use it as a clutch too. I don't think i'll ever switch wallets again.

I'm not sure if I agree with the whole wallet can't be more expensive than the bag thing as my wallet was and still is more expensive than most of my bags. Only last month I purchased bags that were more than my wallet but I don't always and only use those bags. My wallet is my wallet and it is with me all the time. The bags always change.

High end! I would rather have a high end wallet than bag.

Cheap wallets in expensive bags remind me of people in designer clothes who wear cheap underwear...

people take wallets out in public, i'm not sure if they show their underwear in public...haha...
needless to say i agree with you for the most part - i'd rather have a nice wallet before a nice handbag.

High end for quality. I only have one wallet, the LV zippy. It's roomy, holds a lot of cards, receipts and notes. I've been using it everyday for 4 years now and it still look great!

I know what you mean :smile1:

I know many people who use the "top layer", i.e. handbags and clothes to show off, but who don't care for the details like wallets and undies.
My grandma always used to say: you might be in an accident. Would you want the emergency crew want to see some old and not cared for underwear?

at the end of the day, i think the most important thing is practicality and whether it meets all your needs for a wallet.

eg. zip around wallet so that you can convert it into a clutch and put your phone inside or perhaps a very small and square shaped wallet to fit into your everyday handbag.

end of the day, what kind of wallet you need is more important than how much it is.

I totally agree! For me, functionality is the most important factor.

I use my 3 yr old LV Zippy Wallet every single day for functionality and the way it holds up. It is still in excellent condition and can really take a beating. With that said, prior to acquiring my LV wallet, I used a simple leather wallet (can't remember the brand now) that cost $50 and held up for over 10 yrs. To me quality and functionality are the two most important things no matter what brand it is.
