Watch it come off easily with acetone with Q-tips! Lol! At least it wasn't written with ball point pen and they aren't gouged in.Arrghhhhhh! Why does this happen? and this is why I pick up bags I probably shouldn't....

I rehabbed one that had similar markings but it was sharpie.... you cant get it all the way off. The bag is usable now but none the less bears the marks.
I had one of these. It was definitely orange but I don't know what the color was called. I also had a red one that was pre creed.
I have been curious too. I have a small bag, with a creed, but pre-serial number, that I believe is burnt orange too. I have seen no mention of it in a swatch or catalogue images I have seen here or elsewhere on the internet.

I haven't seen chili IRL. At one time, Coach called this orange color vermillion.
I remember the Chili from Carly's back in 2007. They were a true red. My bag definitely has orange in it.
I remember when the Willis 2.0 came out in vermillion because I saw one of those up close too. They were a deep orange , but I want to say it was not a burnt orange because of the shiny kind of leather.
Your "direct sun" picture reminds me of my Carmine Nomad 36026 (the second picture below). The carmine color is an orange-red and it changes with the lighting sometimes it looks bright red, and other times it looks orange, and in low light it can even look burnt orange.
Coach did the Nomad in three shades of red, see below. They also did an oxblood Nomad but it was almost purple.

Hi ladies, I've been reading thru this thread recently and have been enjoying hearing about the history of Coach. Today I received my first vintage Coach piece, I believe it's called the Madison Gracie? Please feel free to collect me if I'm wrong about the name. It is in navy and in excellent condition. I had no idea she would be so mini/small and so darn cute! Can I ask what years they made this model in Italy? TIA for the info and thanks for letting me share this find. 
The year code is probably in the creed. I think they are from around 1995.
