It is a neat style but most of the piping is completely destroyed. You would have to have a supply of leather cut into strips to make new piping and an industrial sewing machine to sew it on. It would be a very difficult task and not worth the money and time since you could probably find one in nearly perfect condition for around $50. If I found a bag like this, I would use the strap on something else and cut up the rest of the purse for other projects.

well dear readers

here is my poor gallery bag, after a coat of leather magic in caramel, and a 2nd coat of tarrago dye in carmello. or vice-versa. i am so traumatized by this whole experience i am not sure.

anyhoo, lessons learned:

listen to the advice you receive on this forum.

unless you're an expert, or prepared to lose your bag--DON'T try to redye it. except maybe black.

assemble all your materials ahead of time. (like trying a new recipe, lol)

invest in a pair of gloves that fit. ( i knocked my dye bottle over twice, fumblimg with too-big gloves)

mask your hardware. (yeah, duh, right)

sit down and ask yourself if you really want to do this. have a nice glass of wine. you may change your mind...

realize that (unless you're an expert, or the purse fairy really really likes you)--you're unlikely to want to actually carry your masterpiece.

here she is. still needs brass cleaned, more conditioning..

Congratulations. That looks good. Nice colour. I had a similar experience with a bone soft satchel. My daughter said she would use it but unfortunately the refinisher started peeling off almost immediately. It's now in the too, too hard basket. One day I might tackle it again!

I have three that need redyeing. I have no idea when I'll get to them. I don't think there is a product available to amateurs that does a decent job.

I meant to bid on this but I forgot. Someone got a good deal!

Well at least he was polite and changed the listing. I've had others who have thanked me but left the listing with the BS, and mostly they don't bother replying like the seller of the 1940's bag. I don't contact sellers often but sometimes I just can't help it ...and I need to get a life too!

Yesterday my kid asks if he can get a new knapsack for school since he will probably be attending HS till he is 42..I told him to go check out LLBean
Today my new bag comes & he is like"":ooh can I have that backpack?"" No my Darling, ,mommy can't even afford to keep this one, but I'll find a cheap leather knapsack & I'll rehab it for you..This bag is gorgeous!!

Yeah, I just had enough!! yesterday :pokey:..sometimes I start writing ebayers,but then I think.."why an I wasting my time?" and setting myself up for another Gutless Girl situation..
I usually feel better after writing something SNARKY & then deleting it..
He was nice & very humble..just the way I like my men !!:lolots:.

Love that back pack especially the turn lock pocket.

My friend sells at our local Flea Market and I was able to snag this dark brown Clutch portfolio. Nary a scratch, tear or discoloration. Someone really took good care of this baby. The dimensions: 13 x 9 x 1.15.
