Thank you @Hyacinth & @whateve for the info/photos ~~ and @katev also.
I would never have guessed "Sea" as I think of that as more in the green and/or blue families. The greenish shade isn't really noticeable to me because it's usually worn with black, reds or grays ~~ besides, I really WANT it to be  gray! Now to find a Nubuc in Slate - and in good condition for a price I'm willing to pay!

Nubuc is nice if it is in good condition but it can be miserable to try and rehab! If you find a nubuc bag at a good price that has problems - then I would pass.

My Slate Sonoma Medium Flap Nubuc has an A5E-4935 serial and a Made in Italy creed, so that's the time period to concentrate on. I don't know if most or all of them were made in Italy or just the Flap styles. Here are several different styles in Slate Nubuc from the Spring 1995 catalog. Mine seems about half a shade darker than the ones in the catalog pics but maybe that's just due to age or to the poor lighting in my Purse Room:

I hate to admit it, but I'm sooo jealous of your Slate bag. Wondering though if it would hold all the stuff I think I need to carry???

Amen to that! My hat's off to all you rehabbers, but I've always tried to buy bags that don't need much more than a dunk and some conditioner. That was back when you could still buy Coaches in good condition for reasonable prices though. I actually LIKE bags that show a little wear and maybe a scratch or two, it's part of a Coach's history. A vintage Coach has a right to look its age and to be proud of it.

The 4903-4935 styles are fairly roomy. There's no underflap pocket but the outside back pocket helps make up for it. If I need to carry much more than the usual wallet/phone/cosmetic bag/driving glasses I'll reach for one of my Kiplings or LeSportsacs.

ETA - Unfortunately, Coaches are usually like reverse TARDISes, they're smaller inside than they look on the outside.

I have a 4903 and really love how roomy it is. The 4906 is a great size too, but I did add a purse organizer to keep things from falling into never, never land at the bottom. The bag is even a bit heavier now, but you just can't beat a nice leather in a vintage bag.

Edit: BTW - Meltonian shoe cream "Smoked Elk" is a prefect match to my "Sea" shade of gray on the 4906 bag.

An extreme rehabber I'm not. But I certainly admire the hard work of @katev and many others who are and are generous enough to share their photos and their stories.

Hello! I have a question about a saddlery I just got from online goodwill. Was the saddlery ever made with two different colors in the spectator fashion? The body looks tabac, but the leather trim looks BT. I've looked through most of the posted catalog pages but couldn't find any two-toned saddleries that look similar. It has been authenticated already on the AT thread and the creed indicates it was made in NYC. Thanks for any info!

I've seen some bags with unintentional two-tone. These aren't the normal colors Coach used for spectator bags. It's either because the trim leather took the dye differently, or they were using up some trim that didn't quite match, or someone replaced the trim later.

I think that "unintentional two-tone" is a good way to describe it! I think that sometimes Coach used different lot numbers of leather or dye for the bag and the trim and they just aged differently; but when I see it - I kind of like it! Because it is unique.

Below are pics of a Soho Leather Laced Flap Bag 11879 that I rehabbed and the color is Buckskin, but the strap and the hangtag are colored differently from the body of the bag - so I think that it is "unintentional two-tone" but it looks nice IMO! I've matched the bag to a Poppy Whipstitch Wallet in Natural Leather and Brass 47042 and I think they all look good together.

Thanks @whateve and @katev for the info. It is unique - I'll give you that! I just wish I liked the color combination.

@katev The bag you posted is lovely. Those colors go well together!

Sorry your bag is disappointing, have you already received it or can you cancel the order? Rehabbing a bag may change the color, usually making it a little darker - so that might make it more attractive to you. Good luck!
