I thought this bag off the goodwill auction site and I thought it was a city bag..the number on it though is 5117. I'm not very familiar with the numbers on the really old ones and only have had a few leather works usa bags in my hands.
I'm not doubting its authenticity but since I'm selling it I dont want the buyers to doubt it either. This bag was made long before computers and the computer tote from the 90s is what comes up when I googled.

Hi, you’ll want to post in the “authenticate this coach” thread but there was a period of time when coach bags had unique serial numbers to each bag but they didn’t mean anything. That seems to be what yours is- a unique random number. I would post in the thread I mentioned above to verify its authenticity anyways since you plan to sell it :)

You know who linked it on his facebook page...if its the one you are talking about.
Thanks. Were it any color other than maybe a purple one, I would have gone slower with the buy. Live and learn. Before it goes back, do you want a creed pic for your files?

Yes, please! I did my best trying to brighten up the one from the seller but it's just too blurry, I wonder if that was deliberate? And could you get one of the back of the turnlock too, that shows the 4 prongs that hold it on? It may or may not have indentations, but I'd like to know for sure.

Thanks, and good luck getting your refund. If I can help, just let me know.

Thanks I will. I bought two bags from the same seller and they described them as being in fair condition. I was happily surprised to find they were in great shape.

It wasn't made before computers! It was made between 1989-1993. Coach used unique serial numbers up until 1994. You won't find a style number on a creed for a bag made before 1994. It is a city bag. The number is meaningless.

I should have been more specific..before laptops were small enough to put in a coach laptop bag.
The first "laptop" I worked on back then was pretty big and thick and barely portable

This Bonnie Cashin tiny tote bag was kindly authenticated by Whateve in the AT thread, as a mid- to late-60s bag.(Thanks, Whateve!) does anyone happen to know the style name or number? Did Coach have catalogues in the 1960s? This is not a bag I would ever dunk, because the base is just plain cardboard wrapped in fabric; I just want to take care of it for its historic value to me. Is a Bonnie Cashin tag bag older than a Coach metal tag bag? Sorry, I realize these are a bunch of questions — appreciating your collective expertise!

I don’t have the specifics but I am sure someone else will come around later with them. What a lovely collectible find! I saw your post on AT and this is my fantasy thrift shop find! Someone else posted way back and they found this lined lunch tote style in a coral color. They are out there! You give me hope  Thanks for sharing this.

Good news everyone! I haven't been scammed and now own a very gently used large Saddle Pouch in Putty. She has quite a few pulled stitches, but other than that, there's nothing much wrong with her. I'm debating whether or not to dunk.
@Morgan_Bellini, it is now later and this is where I thank you! It's a great bag. A bit narrow and a bit of a high forehead, but it'll work well for me. I'm surprised by how much I like Putty, it seems to be a very versatile neutral, like a taupe eyeshadow that looks entirely plain in the pan but you put it on and it suddenly pulls golden when you wear that burgundy dress, or purple when you wear a blue sweater, and goes with every skin tone.
She came with all her paperwork, and a surprise in the zipper pocket. It's stamped and slightly embossed in gold, has anybody seen this before? I wonder if that's measurements and assembling instructions or something. Opinions welcome!
Lovely. I find putty /taupe can be underrated. I have a Patti in taupe and was initially disappointed it was not the chocolate-y brown of mahogany. It really grew on me and the versatility of the Patti , sorry my shorthand for a Patricia Legacy, helped.
I have yet to buy a bag that comes with all the paperwork. My vintage collector shame!:crybaby:

So I think I found another grail of mine, but im not sure. Shall we play the what color do we think this is game? Hoping for mango, but I've never really seen a mango bag.
I vote mango tho I also have never seen it in person! Nice find as usual! Now can you find me one in Sapphire lol, just kidding. I love my Chester bag, it’s the only one I’ve been wearing lately.
