Oh you are wonderful...perfect ..thank you so much...will save those in my Pinterest board. My time has come. I mean--I was just doing a bunch of research on briefcases myself!
If you're really married to the idea of a dowel, there's a few I know of:
Dowel computer case #5297, approx 16x12.5x4.5 - note, this one pas a padded interior meant for a laptop... from the late 90s
Kensington briefcase #5279, approx 16x10x4.5 - I think this might best fit what you're looking for
and, the Beekman briefcase #5266, approx 16x12x4.5 - this one only has one large front pocket, but it would probably be the easiest to find
That being said, if you're willing to compromise on the dowel and/or two front pockets over one, there are a lot more options. Plus, no dowel means a lighter briefcase. I personally don't find the briefcases too heavy, but they are larger, all-leather pieces.
I have a Prescott Brief myself and I love it, though it was a lucky find in my searches:

A few no-dowel, single pocket options are the Metropolitan Brief #5180 or the Lexington Brief #5265 -- both are fairly easy to find in a variety of conditions. There's also the Letter Brief #5270, which is slightly slimmer, and might be good for someone who just wants to carry an ipad and a few other things and not a full-sized laptop:

(if you want some more pictures of the Prescott for an idea on size, since I own that one, I'm happy to provide)
Love all the grays! My son saw my mahogany daypack and asked if I can get him a blue or gray oneYep! Here’s a picture I posted with other greys![]()
I did!! I've been staring at it.Yup, did you see the one on mercari??
Such a smart little guy!Love all the grays! My son saw my mahogany daypack and asked if I can get him a blue or gray oneI told him those are too expensive. He's 4, btw.

Not to enable, but my grey Court is one of my favorite handbags. It was made in Costa Rica and rehabbed so nicely. That price is good for a grey one too. Think I paid 50 or 60 for mine.I did!! I've been staring at it.
Just found this small courier pouch from the MET under Bonnie Cashin and Coach. It said " Gift of Bonnie Cashin 1972"Did Cashin design the Courier Pouch? If so, that one is my favorite. I have one with a metal Coach tag, not a metal Bonnie Cashin tag.
It is currant. I have the same bag. It is very hard to photograph but it is gorgeous in person. Mine is pristine too.Interesting, now I wonder if my super beloved want-to-keep-pristine-behind-glass Rambler is currant. It looks a lot darker than the catalogue photo, but has nickle hardware and is from '99. I had assumed it was burgundy.
Thanks for posting! It's a clever design so I'm not surprised Bonnie Cashin thought of it.Just found this small courier pouch from the MET under Bonnie Cashin and Coach. It said " Gift of Bonnie Cashin 1972"
So courier pouch was designed by Bonnie Cashin indeed.

I just saw a stone color one on Mercari. It has a little ink stain inside and it scared me off. Lol!Love all the grays! My son saw my mahogany daypack and asked if I can get him a blue or gray oneI told him those are too expensive. He's 4, btw.
Ugh, getting this bag was both a blessing and a curse. I got it faded and pancakey with a big black streak of unknown provenance right down the flap. It rehabbed to near-perfection with minimal effort. It is by far the most aesthetically pleasing bag I own and super comfortable to carry. It was also a gift from my awesome boyfriend. I love it to pieces, but is has turned me into a strange bag-babying creature that I don't know I like. I wear my pink lambskin gloves when playing fetch with my dog in the muddy park. My grandma's fine china is in regular rotation. If I come home in my fancy work clothes to a steaming greasy bowl of my man's Spanish cooking I dig in without changing into slobwear. This is who I am and who I want to be, dammit! The Currant Rambler is my kryptonite. It is currant. I have the same bag. It is very hard to photograph but it is gorgeous in person.
