Very disappointing service at Hermes Manhasset

I like to believe she finally got her call from the Manhasset SM and is now
happily strolling around with the new bag - and that that's the reason why she did not follow up
on this story ;)
 
I have to revive this old thread to express how disappointing I am with their service. I don't shop at Hermes frequently, but been having awesome services at both Chicago and Madison ave for my occassional purchases. I called Manhasset last Saturday as they had something I've been looking for. I never shopped from them before, so they wanted me to fax a copy of my credit card and driver's license for charge send purchases. Fine with me, I went to FedEx Kinkos and had it all set. I called afterwards but they said I have passed the cut off for shipping, oh well, maybe on Monday then. I called them today and they said that the document I sent them was too dark, they want a lighter one. I ran to a different location of FedEx Kinkos immediately, because they told me that cut off for shipping is in few hours. Once I sent it off to them, I called them again to verify for shipping, but they told me that they can't ship anything to me because the store owner is on medical leave and no one around wants to take responsibility for verifying my document. Why would she ask me to run and fax it to her then? To make it worse, I was told to wait for the owner to come back, so I asked if they can hold the item for me and they said no. So, what, why, how would I make the purchase then? Does it mean that I have to wait until the owner comes back and pray that the item is not purchased by anyone coming to the store? Ridiculous.
 
I am really sorry to see that this thread has been bumped. I have had wonderful experiences at Manhasset and more recently it's been even better - very attentive SAs, SM and Owner, and not just to me, I see how they treat the other customers, no one is left to wait. They cannot do a search as they are not corporate, but as someone who will sometimes come and take my time (playing!), I do see the SAs trying their best, even when it is very busy (which it usually is).

Diera23, I am sorry to hear of your experience, but I think it is an aberration, especially if the owner isnt there. I have no idea what happened, the timeline isn't exactly clear, and I am surprised they wouldn't hold for you, that also seems atypical (as is the original post, I have never had an imprint taken for a PO). Its very hard to know what is going on without the other side being explained. There is no excuse for bad service, of course, but mistakes do happen and there can be wonderful experiences and top service to be had at this boutique as well. JMO.
 
Thanks for reading my rant, kelly girl and BBC. I understand the documents are necessary, as they might want to verify me as a real, existing person who unfortunately they cannot see in person. It angers me because I left from work abruptly today to run to FedEx Kinkos to fax them the document for the second time, and the SA also rushed me because cut off for shipping was in few hours. I cannot believe that once it's done on my end, they can't do anything on their end. So why would she ask me to rush at the first place? I was literally speechless when she told me nobody wants to take the responsibility to verify my documents. Then, why did she even bother to ask me to do so? :confused1: Plus the inability to hold the item for me, if the item is bought by someone else then what I have done will be completely pointless.....
 
update: They called me just now saying that they can't verify my documents, hence they will not be able to sell me anything........ Unless I have anyone who can come on my behalf, or if I can go to the store directly, what a terrific, simple and easy suggestion....... I'm sorry I really have to rant here. I've been waiting for so long to get that item they have, and now it is around and I have the money, I cannot believe that I cannot buy it :sad:
 
I find it odd as well. If they are shipping the item to the billing address on the credit card, there really should not be a problem. It does sound like a poorly run store in this instance. But a franchise store is run by one person and if they are away on vacation, I can see that no one has the authority to make this happen.

Is the item extremely expensive? This may be contributing to your problem.
 
Why don't you just call the Wallstreet store in NYC?
They are absolutely wonderful and they take phone orders...

update: They called me just now saying that they can't verify my documents, hence they will not be able to sell me anything........ Unless I have anyone who can come on my behalf, or if I can go to the store directly, what a terrific, simple and easy suggestion....... I'm sorry I really have to rant here. I've been waiting for so long to get that item they have, and now it is around and I have the money, I cannot believe that I cannot buy it :sad:
 
I realize this is an old thread but as a frequent customer of the Manhasset store, I feel like I need to chime in. I have never, ever had a negative experience with any SA there, and I am often there with my (loud) toddler! They often help amuse him so I can shop in peace! Perhaps people are getting the reserved nature of many Hermes SAs confused with rudeness? No, they don't act like my best friends but I actually find it off-putting when a SA gets too chatty.

The only negative thing I can say about the Manhasset store is that they cannot call other stores to inquire about merchandise-- I find that exceedingly frustrating but that is just the nature of how that particular store is. They do always offer to call me if a particular item I am looking for comes in.

On another note, someone mentioned that the quality of Birkins is going down?! This saddens me-- I hope this is not true as there are a few more Birkins I would love to own some day.
