I am a lacto ovo vegtarian. which means i do consume products that have eggs or dairy; but i only drink Soy and occasionally rice milk . The only egg or dairy products i consume would be yougurt ( although i do try to buy the soy kind every so often but it's so pricey) and yesterday for the first time in 2 1/2 years i had a cup of regular ice cream; but i rather just eat the soy kind. Overal, I eat nothing that contains animal by products. I do own some leather accesories; but mostly my collection is made of canvas with leather trim. I am one that loves the texture and look of leather; but i do question if i should wear it or not. To wear or not to wear leather is a personal choice. I say do your homework on the company that produces leather goods. I have a made a choice recently . If I buy leather pieces I will buy it from Dooney and Bourke. I read in my catalog how they have aligned with the green cause. I do however need to research Coach ( i love their shoes ). Overal, WE can only try our best to stand up for causes ;but remember WE are not superhumans. They sell fair game meat as well as human leather so look into that if you want to buy leather.

Oh lord ... :roflmfao:

Roxana, I hope you're right or that might just be the most 'exotic' bag yet.

I do agree with your post though, Sign_coachboi.

wow, this got a lot of replies. now that i read all of them, i probably will need to re-adjust what i call myself since i don't eat meat but buy leather goods. what exactly does that make me?

....'you'.

Love it. So true. I'm veg. for religious reasons once a week but have tons of leather. On the other hand, I only eat free-range meat. There's no thin line for me because I'm all over the place, but I make my choices for a myriad of reasons and I'm totally happy with it. I'm 'me' too.

(aww this feels like free to be you and me...)

It's bad that there has to be a label associated with everything, kind of like doing a checklist of things to get your Girl Scout "I'm a Vegan" badge.
Personally, I don't eat meat, fish, chicken, eggs, or milk and I try to buy non leather stuff, but I am using my leather shoes I bought that are still good. Don't really care what that makes me.
It would bother me more if everyone suddenly chucked into the trash all their leather/lightbulbs/cars that are still usable and went out and bought new "eco-friendly" stuff just to be officially green.
Yes, if I found a great deal on a beautiful vintage leather bag previously used, and I NEEDED another bag (good for now, thanks :p ), you better believe I'm on it! :)
The main issue is wasteful consumption- be it food, clothes, or accessories.

Couldn't have said it better!

"And supposedly, producing animal friendly 'veg leather' (like Stella McCartney, for example) is worse for the environment than real animal leather (with all the toxic stuff needed to tread the man made material)" Quote from Graciella ... http://forum.purseblog.com/handbags-and-purses/this-is-awful-328175-2.html

I'm not judging anyone- I use leather myself- but the leather tanning process is really really awful for the environment. We all know plastic is also but I'm not sure which of the two is worse.
