VCA 5 Motif white gold onyx x pave vintage alhambra bracelet worth it? Alternatives?

Thank you, the thing is, i cant seem yo think of any alternatives that tick as much boxes off my list. LoL. The only thing that this is not ticking is the price tag. Like i wonder if there are alternatives with this tag.

Unfortunately VCA doesn’t have many ready stock alternating VA motifs unless it’s SO’d. The WG onyx alternating is the only WG option though I’ve seen a WG chalcedony alternating SO on this forum which was divine if you like a lighter airy feminine look. Have you given the WG onyx alternating a try at the boutique? At these price tags I really wouldn’t want to settle and purchase something just because I feel like it’s the only option to get. Ideally it’s best to try it on and see if you really love it.

If you don’t want to do an SO there are so many other alternatives in terms of brands as well. Since you’re letting go of the WG MOP bracelet sounds like you got tired of the vintage Alhambra look. Onyx is indeed more durable but personally the thumbprint/skin marks would bother me.

Also the reason why Cartier WG bothers you is probably because their WG metal blend isn’t as white as VCA (they’re more greyish undertone) and they do NOT rhodium plate their WG except for the ones with diamonds or stones in them. I found this out the hard way when my WG Love tarnished into an ugly yellow grey pretty quick, so I ended up polishing and plating it for an extra fee. Had I known their plain WG pieces weren’t rhodium plated I wouldn’t have gotten it or just gotten the one with diamonds. I don’t know any other big name jewelry brands who don’t rhodium plate their plain WG pieces so it was beyond me as to why Cartier couldn’t plate theirs.

@sassification , if you don’t think you will love the flat opaque quality of onyx, see
@EpiFanatic posted variation alternatives in post #10 that sounded good

ETA: the younger generation does not wear watches much lol

if you are looking for another brand, Bulgari is gaining in popularity (I am fond of it) It is my understanding that it does not use pave in its diamond pieces, so may provide the value you are seeking

Cost per wear is indeed one of my concern, i would say i rotate btw yg and wg so it can be about 50% of the time.. i do love this combo, i am just not sure of the price tag because i also love the Perlee sweet clovers or the regular clovers bangles but as a potential forever piece to pass down to my daughter, i think the 5 motif had more flexibility in terms of sizing.. decisions decisions..

I am in singapore and i think this price can fetch a basic Rolex watch lol, so that is making me hesistate..
I have the single row diamond perlee bangle, and I find that surprisingly low key and easy to wear. Does not show scratches. The Signature bangle also does not scratch easily. I have small wrists too, 13 cm, and I find the XS the perfect size. It's just a matter of type of wear, bangle or bracelet. I find my 5 motifs easier to wear, but as I get older (thinking 70s) I will find the bangles easier to put on. Just some thoughts.

Honestly take your time & don't rush. It's a lot of money. Try it on a few times, try on the clovers, maybe even a pave/mini love, a bvlgari piece & see what speaks to you.
Which one, if any , makes your heart sing.
Even if the piece you love best is more, it will be worthwhile in the long run.
I ended up not getting this bracelet, but a diamond bangle from graff which was a lot more, but makes my heart flutter every time i wear it (or just see it in my jewelry safe).
Go with what you love, not because there's nothing better

Hi! You have gotten a lot of great input, and I'll add my two cents.

First, I think you like diamonds, so I would skip all pieces that do not have a lot bling. You like bling, and you won't be satisfied with bling-less pieces. I would not waste money and settle on cheaper pieces just to own something. You'll end up with pieces that you don't love and end up selling them (e.g. your WG MOP).

On the onyx / pave bracelet...
My opinion is that you will not wear this bracelet regularly. It will not go with everything due to the black, the diamonds will flip and annoy you (where did my bling go?), so that's two big strikes against this piece. Add to the flat black you mentioned, and yes, onyx gets smudgy easily, so that's a third strike. My feeling is this will not be your "perfect piece" and it may be money wasted.

On buying jewelry to pass down... that's a big no for me. Jewelry is for you, so buy what you love and want to wear. This is especially true if you are thinking of buying something to pass down. As @880 mentioned, kids are picky these days and you don't even know if your daughter will love jewelry, the VCA brand, or a big bold Clover bracelet. On gifts... kids these days wants cash, they want "trips and experiences", and for material things, they want to personally buy unique things that reflect who they are. Even for young adults today, I have friends where their kids don't want any of their parent's fine furniture to use for their dorm room/apt. They rather buy new cheap junk furniture they have personally chosen for themselves. Finally, my jeweler says there are so many people now that bring in inherited jewelry and sell it just to get the cash. She said that's why there is so much vintage everywhere. Hence, even if your daughter is a jewelry lover, she may not love mom's pieces.

Which brings me full circle to buy what you love... the Clover!
I love love love the classic Clover (I have it in WG). By the way, I also have the WG MOP and love it!
The Clover is truly a work of art, a lifetime piece. The metal work is amazing, and the diamonds make the bangle sparkle so much. The Clover is a bold bangle; yet the workmanship is so delicate; it's just stunning. The piece is very easy to wear, dressy or casual. I dress very casual after business hours, and I wear mine with shorts and a tee.
If I could only have one VCA bracelet, for me, it would be the Clover.

I vote skip the onyx / pave and buy the Clover. I am not sure of your budget, but for the purpose of math, I will assume you have a current budget of about $15K (for the onyx / pave bracelet). I will also assume you are open to selling pieces.

If it were me, this is what I would do...
- Sell the WG MOP as you stated you are doing (too boring you mentioned)
- Sell the VA guilloche (needs more bling you said)
- Take the cash from the sale of the two bracelets, use your "15K" budget, add a few more dollars, and poof... buy the Clover!:heart:
I truly think you will love the Clover. I also think after you get the Clover, you will want to wear it over your WG MOP or guilloche so selling both pieces made sense. Also, items on your wish list may change, so in the end, you may end up saving money.

Of course, I made a big assumption you did not love love love your guilloche; hence, I recommended to sell it. Guilloche is lovely, but it's just a metal bracelet with four leaf clovers. My gut says you're a bling girl!:heart: (I like bling too).

Just my two cents for another point of view.
Yikes... sorry for the long post. I hope this was helpful. Good luck in your decision!

Yes, altho rhodium plating in itself means at some point we need to spend money to rrstore thay shine, maybe 8 yrs down the road.. i do love the WG at VCA, its so shiny but it makes other stacming rings or bracelet i have pale in comparison lol

I wanted to try it at the store but they only had the RG alternative pave which i love but i really dont ean to start a RG collection.. i am sticking to yg (my engagement ring) and wg my wedding band..

My SA is helping to check worldwide stocks.. but i think i need to likely confirm purchase for them to ship it over to SG..

Yes the thumbprint marks worry me, not sure if it will bother me enough to fall out of love

Omg i Lurvveeeee all you ladies, thank you so so much taking time to share all your lovely experiences and opinion!

It is like... you are reading my mind! Or even my subconscious.. perlee clover bracelet has always been on my mine but i feel guilty spending so much on a single item so its way down on the wishlist.. until the sweet clovers came along.. i am more of a dainty jewellery kind of girl, altho i love the regular perlee clovers but i always loved perlee. I wanted the sweet clovers perlee ring but i tried it and found it slightly loud and thick for the current me (not sure if i will change my mind in future)

I did put up my guilloche for sale but i do not want to part with it with a big loss, as i still do enjoy it, just not like major love when i first got it

I hate that i am so fickle , and because i want to be responsible with my money, i am being very careful and thoughtful abt single items over 10K..

I do agree with buy what i love.. if i ignore the fact that i worry ant my girl not fitting into my XS perlee clover bracelet in future, i really do sway towards this.. i see it on Tati (youtube) and i jus go gaga everytime..but when i see the price tag, i bulked abit lol

Its true that the younger gen dont wear much watches.. even for me i nvr reallly did until i fell in love with chanel J12. I just love the ceramic and how hardy it is and how easy it is for me to wear it. I havent fell in love with rolex, altho its like a great investment piece

Thank you dear.for sharing these photos and your thoughts! It is sooo beautiful! You have an amazing stack, in fact the cartier full pave small as well as perlee clovers are also on my wishlist but i think they will be there for a while! LoL!

Does the onyx bother you sometimes with fingerprint marks?

If you could only get 1 bracelet, would it be the perlee clovers or this?

I like to wear black as much as i like my summer floral dresses, so i was wondering if it will match like girly wispy bohemian outfits

I’ve only ever noticed fingerprint marks on my onyx pieces when I look close in the right light.

Fwiw I never dress girly or wispy and live the harder onyx look. But I would get perlee clovers if I could only get one.

There really aren't any alternatives close in price other than the sweet perlee bracelet which you already mentioned. Both the single row diamond perlee bracelet and the perlee clover bracelet are over $20k USD. So if you love the onyx/pave vintage Alhambra bracelet, I think it's a good choice for a very versatile and wearable Alhambra bracelet. If I were going to a higher price range, I'd personally get the clover bangle, which is the most iconic and beautiful VCA bangle, in my opinion.
