Hard to find MIF in Canada. I went to different LV stores and you are lucky when you get one.

We have a thread of prices in Canada is you are interested:
http://forum.purseblog.com/louis-vuitton-shopping/lv-prices-in-canada-43057-202.html

Usually our prices are a bit cheaper that US but we pay like 14% taxes in Montreal.

If you get a pre-loved NF on eBay that would be your best bet to find a MIF I guess.

The one on eBay is not MIF it's USA but its cheaper obviously bc it's Preloved. Id rather get one in a store though especially if I can score a MIF. Do foreigners get the tax back?

I just responded to your other thread. I've bought MIF pieces in Vancouver, but probably depends on what you're looking at.
There are two if I remember..I moved two years ago to Calgary but there should be one in Holt Renfrew in Pacific Centre and one in the Fairmont Vancouver, both downtown. Im sure you can claim some of the taxes at least but you'll have to do your research. I'm American but lived in Canada for 7 years now.

Thank you :) maybe I should call the stores themselves and ask what the stock is unless anyone else recently has been and knows :) my store had MIF up until end of last year. Now only the USA tags :( nothing wrong with it but you know... Lol

There is a store inside Holt Renfrew and also another one in Hotel Vancouver -- both are in downtown and within walking distance to one another. There is a bigger selection at the Hotel Vancouver location as they also carry clothing and are 2 floors.

As for MIU/MIF/MIS, I've been told by an SA at the Hotel Vancouver location that only certain styles are MIU. So I gather that you will likely find other pieces MIF & MIS. However, this information could be confirmed by others who may purchase from them more often.

Though I live and shop in Vancouver often, I make most of my purchases abroad or in USA because sales tax in Vancouver is 12%. Prices are a little less (around 5-10%) in CAD compared to USD but with 12% tax, it usually ends up around the same, if not a little more expensive in CAD.

To my knowledge, the visitor tax refund rebate program back in 2007. Again, maybe someone else can confirm?

I think she means the one shes looking at on ebay is MIU? :shrugs:
Definitely call ahead if you can. Nothing to lose, though I think the SAs may or may not tell you because they seem to be touchy on the MIF/MIU debate...

Yea sorry I forgot it was called MIU lol yes I'm trying to decide between buying an MIU on eBay or waiting till my trip to Vancouver and get one there at a store possibly MIF

Thank you so much for the info :) really appreciate it!

There are actually 2 LV stores, both with good SA's if you can find friendly ones. The stores are less than 5 minutes walking from eachother and if you are looking for something that one store doesnt carry they always offer to call the other for me. They are suuper helpful with picky things, well usually because I am very specific myself.

Every LV i've ever bought has been MIF and I haven't even had to ask because the ones they bring already are MIF by chance (I'm either lucky or they arent as rare at this location as you'd think). Actually I think only some styles come in MIU like was mentioned above. But of course if you do have a preference and you get a cooperative SA they should help you find one. In my experience the male SA's are a bit less snooty and wont try to convince you that MIU is the same, they just oblige to you wants and do the best to their abilities to please you. Avoid the old asian lady from the hotel vancouver store at all costs. I'd personally get my own that was MIF rather than an MIU but if it is a lot cheaper you could save the money to put towards another LoVe.

Forgot to mention that I'm only just 15 so the fact that I can be treated with respect here is amazing, unlike the holts in Yorkdale Toronto.

Visitors can apply for a GST rebate only (not PST, which is 7% in BC). This website will give you more information: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/gst-tps/rbts/menu-eng.htmlhttp://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/visitors/. Depending how you're leaving the country (air, land, boat), you can also ask a customs officer for assistance.

Thank you. We are driving in and out from Seattle. Do customs really check the value of things you buy when you're passing through the border checkpoint? I don't remember them doing so in Toronto if you're coming by car. They just wanted to know what you did.

Haha thanks for the tip to avoid the old Asian lady. What do I do if I get her? (Knowing my luck....)

Honestly it just depends on luck. And I find the Canada border (going in) checks Canadians because of the commonality of Canadians going shopping down in Seattle. US border going back to Seattle for you should be a breeze with a US passport. But you never know I guess!
When I moved back to US with a van full of my stuff covered in blankets they didn't even blink....

Oh I travel from vancouver to seattle almost every weekend, I carry my neverfull across the border all the time and they never ask me about my bag. I do lie about how much I spend sometimes because I would go down there with my boyfriend to the us and come back a bit over the limit. In this case, I would not show a receipt for like 100$ budget to stay under the non custom tax expenditures! I know its bad, but all my friends and family do it! D:

As long as you've made other purchases, it'll be fine. They really only ask what you did, where you are going and how much you spent. I only once had them check my receipts but thats because I handed it to them because I was a newbie! Never had my trunk checked out ever! :)

I like the SAs at holt refrew, they're so nice! I'd recommend going on a workday, less hectic and grumpy haha. But the stand alone store is really nice too, I love the store design. Also, kobe steak and seafood house is right across the street! Lots of designer stores along the same strip.
