)When I get complimented on my hands, my natural response is to say thank you and just say I lotion up as everyone thinks of "dry hands."
Ironically, just today, my eye doctor said my hands looked so young and soft, and I basically said the same response which is to lotion up.

I was thinking she was asking in the context of "dry hands", so I responded to that TPFer that I use Working Hands:

Well... these comments now made me realize perhaps what you, my eye doctor, and I think @marbella8 were really referring to was not about dry hands. Rather, I think the reference is to young looking hands.

Here is my hand regime which I am happy to share. I really feel this routine has kept my hands looking young.
I hate age spots (hate hate hate), so that's my main focus when dealing with my hands which your comment prompted me to think about other people's comments to me.
I don't do any medical office treatments as I'm too chicken and worry about long side term side effects to the skin (e.g. thin crepey skin longterm). However, I do use a lot of serums, and I also use a retinol.
So as not to bore you and others with all my products & steps, I'll summarize the key things I do:
- La Mer: I am a huge La Mer fan, and my routine is what I put on my face also goes on the back of my hands and up my wrist. When I put La Mer products on my face in the morning and at night, I first put the product on the back of my hand. Then, I use my other hand to put it on my face. When I am done with my face, there is always some product left (I make sure of it). I then take that remaining product, put the backs of my hands together and rub in. This movement feels unnatural at first (who puts the back of their hands together and rub it), but after you do it for a while, it comes natural. The products really soak in to those hands nicely.
- Sunscreen: I always put sunscreen on my face as the last product. However, I am also a fanatic about sunscreen on my hands and up to my elbow. That's because wrinkles and age spots can show up not only on your hands, but also your wrist/arms from being outside and also just riding in the car.
I am sure you know this, but not all sunscreens are the same.
I use sunscreen with Mexoryl 400, which is available worldwide except in the US (FDA approval is still pending).
Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL have been used for decades worldwide, but the US is lagging behind and only Mexoryl SX is approved in the US so far. Mexoryl 400 is new since last year.
Here is a nice short article, and this is the one I use (the key ingredient was prevoiusly Mexoryl XL)
L’Oréal Breaks the Ultra-long UVA Code with UVMune 400
UVMune 400 is considered L’Oréal's biggest sun care innovation in 30 years. Driven by Mexoryl 400 (INCI: Not Provided), the next-gen filter is said to protect against ultra-long UVA; it is currently included in the La Roche-Posay Anthelios sun care range.
I buy my Anthelios sunscreen from a UK or France online pharmacies, depending on price when I need more.
You can sometimes find it from US retailers, but their price is often $30+ a bottle whereas in the UK/France, it's around $12 a bottle. Just FYI in case you might be interested in this sunscreen.
- Must Have La Mer Products: I use the full line of La Mer, but if I had to choose two must-have products, it would be the The Concentrate and Regenerating Serum (in that order). I feel the The Concentrate does the most to repair skin damage. It's a pricey item, but NM/Saks often carry the 3.4oz size which is the cheapest in terms of price per ounce. Same for the Regenerating Serum... the jumbo 3.4oz size is the best bargain.

- Tretinoin: I think this helps tremendously with wrinkles and age spots. Your dermatologist will have to write a prescription as this started out as a product for skin acne, but doctors saw it also treated wrinkles and age spots. I highly recommend putting this on the back of your hand every night.
Tretinoin is a product I would say helps to "treat" the wrinkles and age spots.
La Mer The Concentrate and La Mer Regenerating Serum are products I would say help to "repair" the skin. The Concentrate is the bomb for me for skin repair.

- La Mer Renewal Oil: I use this purely to make my face/hands look soft and to make my skin glow. It is not for treating age spots. Yes... my face/hands glow! I am not kidding. When I first started to use this, I receive comments on "what did you do, your skin glows." This product is it. Put a few drops on the back of your hands, and your hands will glow! I do think any quality brand skin oil will probably do similar. However, I'm a La Mer lover, and I love their Renewal Oil:

Regardless of the products, I think the key is to treat the back of your hands as you treat your face. Don't ignore your hands.
And.. to me... whatever is done to "treat" and "repair", all that is wasted if one does not "prevent" by using top quality sunscreen.
