Does anyone think the Birkin looks better slouchy or not slouchy?
I know everyone has a preference - but just curious.

thanks.....

Hope I can help here: I have one of each. A birkin in white epsom and a birkin in Anthracite togo.....both 35. Here's the sticky wicket: I love them both equally. For me it depends on color...my white is perfectly poised and my gray is moodier. Each H bag is different. Does the color/leather/hdwr combo look and feel gorgeous to YOU? That's what matters.
How bout a VL Kelly 32 Sellier w/GHW in rouge H? Unbelievable right? But, it wasn't for me. If someone said how bout a big white epsom birkin, I would have said no,nuts.....but, I flipped for it. Use the forum info, but How does it make u feeeeel? This is what the really amazing H ladies here got me to see......
boy, I'm awfully yacky tonight....yak yak yak...I'm stopping now.......

Hi Giselle,
I love a more structured, less floppy bag. So I was very curious about VL in a Birkin also. But I did want it to eventually gracefully fold into that lovely triangle from the side view (know what I mean?)

So before I bought my VL ebene Birkin (from an absolutely darling TPF member, btw!), I called the Bev Hills boutique and spoke with a craftsperson there and she said "Yes, of course it will relax eventually! Remember, the Birkin is not stitched outside - it's nature is rather unconstructed - so unless you stuff it to the gills every moment it's not being used, yes, it will eventually soften into a lovely natural posture." Boy that was a revealing and reassuring statement for me. So I bought the bag and am still crazy in love with it.

It is structured, but you can fold it over if you want. It's NOT at all plastic-y! (And I own two epsom bags, so I'm familiar with epsom.) It feels like stretched skin - very light, but with slight texture and gorgeous sheen. Perfectly waterproof. (Watch the corners however with a larger 35cm bag - the thinness of the skin may make it a bit more vulnerable at the corners. So far so good with mine - it seems VERY durable.)

Hermes has been using VL for a long while on their luggage - which was a plus sales point to me. Attractive, lightweight, durable.

Go feel one if you can. Bend it, fold it over, see what you think. I'd love another VL Birkin. Or Kelly. (or chevre...)

This is a nice shot of the VL shine, too:

Katel - both your bags are beautiful and I love your pictures. Thank you so much for taking the time to advise me.
Your bag looks great on you.

Evekitti - Welcome to tPF! :smile1:
Your bag is gorgeous also - love how it sits so perfectly.
That first picture is so clear I feel I can reach out and touch it.

Enjoyed looking at everyone's pictures.....

Katel - You have such an amazing collection, and those are no exception! Just beautiful!

Evenkitti- Welcome!!!! Your Ebene is gorgeous! So glad you joined us!

I just love the way that VL looks so purposeful. It looks like proper leather should before Hermes spoiled us with so many varieties and colours which has made each choice a heartache. VL stands up and takes it on the chin but the two tone quality gives it a secret heart as well.

It is very difficult to capture the beauty of vl...I particularly love this skin in gold. I personally don't think it feels or looks like epsom at all...just a stiff leather.

Rockerchic - your photo actually captures the beauty very well! One thing I noticed about VL is that not only does the leather have a 2-tone effect, but the "hills" of the grain have a sheen, and the "valleys" are more matte. It really is lovely. My mom has a gold VL bolide and I have...well, a reveal is coming up! The leather is VERY stiff at first, but I envision it aging and softening beautifully without losing it's shape (as I look over at my completely splayed out Clemence Birkin! )

The VL I was holding in my hand was a Brown Kelly 35cm. It was neither glossed or matte. It had a subdued sheen. I found it awfully light.... The Birkin in VL looks amazing.

I saw a VL gold lindy a couple of weeks ago...it somehow worked, but I think of Lindys as being more "slouchy". When I think of VL, I think of a sellier kelly or rigide bolide. It does indeed look different in person than in the photos--I quite liked it!
