i can't seem to find this in search so i apologize if this is a repeat thread. i see a lot of posts regarding upgrading of engagement rings, but how does one go about selling your old ring? i know some people will go back to their original jeweler, but mine was purchased from uniondiamond.com (similar to blue nile) so i don't have a physical jeweler to go to. i know some places will buy your old ring as credit towards a new ring, but then don't you lose out on a lot of the value? i'm just curious to hear what people do, just in case i get the opportunity to upgrade in the future :)

I didn't have a diamond ring when DH and I were engaged and married, so I wore a myriad of different rings over the years, and often no ring at all. At the 10 year mark, he and I decided to buy my first diamond (we wanted an heirloom to pass down to our daughter) and that's when I got into antique cuts.

Since the task was mine to find what I wanted and basically buy it myself, I didn't feel bad the, ummmm, 4 or 5 times I've upgraded since  It just took me some time to find my forever piece and think I've finally found it. How do I know? Cuz I FINALLY sent a stone off to my dream jeweler for a very expensive setting. I take that as some unconscious cue :yahoo:

I would trade them all, though, for one ring of any size/quality that had sentimental value for us. I do have 9 other fingers, yanno...
