I personally don't like the idea at all!

I have a ring that isn't centered around a single stone anyway, so an upgrade is pointless.

It's hard to see but there are 5 very small diamonds around the points that meet.

I personally dont feel sentimental about my er stone. Its just a piece of jewellery to me. I love having it but would not miss it personally if I were to upgrade it.

My guy proposed without a ring and then we both put in time and effort to make up a ring. I found the design and he got it made up and purchased the stones himself. My ring doesnt have a story, its just jewellery!!!

I also have the view that everything we own is just `on loan`. One day all my jewellery will belong to someone else and have a new `value` and ownership. Its just a cycle really.

I'm afraid I'm in the camp of people that don't believe in 'upgrading' your engagement ring.

It doesn't matter how big or small the ring is - it is what you could afford at the time and in that way it means a huge amount.

My hubby could afford to get me a huge diamond now but when we got engaged the one I have was more than he could afford really. I would not dream of getting a bigger one just because we have more money now.

I am putting more money into getting an eternity ring - but I want to keep my small engagement ring.

The sentiment behind it means more than having the biggest diamond!

Oh....Im still keeping my original stone. Will just have it set to a pendant or something else if I do get a bigger center stone in the near future. An eternity ring is a good idea too:graucho:

No, haven't thought about it.... I like my engagement ring and my ruby/diamond wedding band together. The only thing that I have done with them is to have the platinum polished on both rings since they get a bit dull after a few years (and scratched). When they come back from the jeweler, they look brand new!!!

I orginally had a pear that was 98 pts and baquettes on the side(totaling about 20pts). I wanted to have it reset(this was about 14 years ago). When they took out the stone from the original setting it was chipped!! I was so upset. Soooo I upgraded to my current marquise (1.85pts) with diamonds totalling .50 on either side. I have been told by other jewelers that the stone I have now is larger then 1.85, but I go by what the original apprasial says. I love it.

I haven't really upgraded...My original e-ring stone is currently loose and I am not sure if I want to put it in a new ring or a pendant. I could never trade it in, though...DH picked it out himself and I am very sentimantal. I currently wear my late MIL's e-ring with my wedding band on my left hand.

MY DH spent so much time and effort picking mine out, I want to keep mine forever! That doesn't mean that we won't get a bigger one someday, but my original will always be special to me!

I don't plan to ever upgrade mine. I love it, and it is the perfect size for me, as well as being excellent quality.

This is exactly what I was thinking about. But I would like to add a plain platinum band to my set. Is it three to much??? I really like the three rings set. This is what it looks like right now.

ladies,
i currently have a 1.1 carat round cute center stone engagement ring, but I'd truly like to upgrade mine. It is E color, VVS1, which is pretty good quality. The ring itself isn't that big, and I'd like to upgrade it to a bigger rock and maybe change the setting ,but dont' want want to spend that much more.

My question is do u think it's a good idea to upgrade in size, but maybe downgrade a bit in the quality, like F color and VVS2?

Also, how long did u ladies wait til the next upgrade? My ring finger size is around 5.

Here's a current picture of what I have now. I love it still...but want to change. After seeing all the lovely pictures of ur e-ring...I'd like to change.

Hi pwecious_323, prior to my upgrade, I had a 0.91 carat round brilliant D VVS1. So for my upgrade, my priority was that it must be bigger than 1 carat so I was looking at stone sizes around 2 to 2.25 carats. Also, I wanted a fancy cut diamond for my upgrade and I really like the look of a cushion cut diamond set in diamond micropave halo.

I still care about color and clarity so to upgrade in size, I chose to go down in color but still in the colorless range i.e. between D to F color and clarity but not anything beyond VS2 clarity. Regardless of the 4Cs or certification may be one thing but at the end of the day, you have to see the stone and like what you see. Like many have said on the forum, you aren't going to carry the certification around yeah?

So after trying on different stone sizes for comparisons, I ended up with a 1.82 carats F VS2. The stone was just right and within our price range. Coincidentally, it's 2x the size of my original e-ring so that in itself feels special !

I got my upgrade about 6+ years after marriage, at no specific special occasion. There is no general rule of thumb for an upgrade, most important, you and DH are ready to take the plunge and have the budget for it, then go for it!!!!! :flowers:

Good luck and have fun!

yes! I'd definitely go down in clarity FOR SURE, even if you slide down to a VS2 you WILL NOT see any imperfections w/ your eye. Heck, I'd even go for a slightly bigger stone w/ SI1 clarity as you still won't see any inclusions.
I'd also look for F or G color stones.
Are you wanting to get another round? Just make sure the cut is perfect, all else will fall into place:D

We were going to wait until our 10th but DH got excited and did it this past Christmas:love:
