Honestly? no. You are not a awalking dollar sign. This is not a good reason to upgrade. You said you like what you have. Keep it - all of it & enjoy it.

Hell, if I took everything I bought over that last year & tallied it up, sur e I could have bought someting bigger, but so what? That's destructive thinking.

LOL L, I know my thinking is off. But it is how I feel. And then there is the makeup.
That is probally more than the ering.

You ladies are awesome!

I did find a 1.71. Having her check the stone for me.
i am just worried because diamonds are going upppppp!
I like my ering accually. I just feel it should be bigger because of my other jewelry has much much more monitary value. Does this make sense? LOL.

Well, if you think about it, unless you upgrade, many times your e-ring will not be reflective of your current income/possessions. If you continually get salary increases, you should have more money to spend as time goes on, which could increase the value of things that you buy. That's part of why I will never upgrade...it's a reflection of exactly where we were at the point of engagement in our lives. If I got a bigger stone, I would either get a different shape for a RHR or maybe make it a necklace. Of course, I have no problem if other people decide to upgrade, but it shouldn't be based on the value of your other jewelry IMO, but again, I guess it depends on how sentimental you are about your original ring

It is also insane to me that they refused to halo a J colored stone. j is still good quality and near colorless. Makes no sense. Maybe you can look for a smaller halo which still makes it appear as a solitaire but increases the look of the stone's size? I have a Tacori 2620 and you can barely see the halo but it makes the diamond look larger. Tacori also allows you to just buy the setting, then a jeweler can set your current stone in it

It is not that I feel the need to keep up with my social standing at all. I have no one to impress but myself. It was a guilt of feeling the other jewlery outshines my e ring in value. I had been felling that way, then when my DH mentioned it and a friend, it was only reflecting how I felt my priorities were wrong with the other jewelry.

I do NOT regret the other jewelry at all and love it soo much. I will wear it more often, LOL. But I love my pieces .
I am not sentimental about it because it is not the ring my DH proposed with. I still have my original ring and will probally use it as a RHR.
Yes, most places that I went to were very snobby jewelers and they did not want to halo my J at all, saying it would bring out the warmth of the stone.

This thread has been very helpful for me! I was ready to purchase the 1.5 and called her and held off, if nothing it saved me a purchase.
We are looking for other stones, if I find them now great. If not, it was not the time.

I value all of your comments, thank you so much!

I get what you're saying about how it can be weird that some other jewelry is worth more than your e-ring... when I got my e-ring it was the single most valuable thing I'd ever owned (other than a car) and I was tripping all the time thinking I'd lose it/it would get stolen... I don't know what it cost but when I lost it the eval. came to around $11K - and I have definitely spent more than that on jewelry in the last few years!

But that said I don't think ANYONE would ever say "wow that girl has a $20K watch but "only" a 1.15 carat diamond e-ring." I don't think e-rings are expected to be changed/keep up with the rest of your items or increased income lifestyle as you get older. In fact until I found this board it never even OCCURRED to me that anyone would change their setting or diamond!! I'd never heard the word "upgrade" and definitely caught "shrinkage fever" here! LOL. You shouldn't feel badly if you want a bigger ring... especially if DH is on board and if you can afford it... just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons and not because you feel like you "should."

In any case don't rush into anything! Diamonds aren't going to jump 50% in the next few months... I'd do some research and think on it for a while. And then if you want to go for it, try to do it once and only once, even if it means saving a bit longer. :)

I would sell what I had to sell now and then see how much I had for an upgrade. I have learned my lesson when it comes to jewelry, I would rather have a few really nice pieces than several smaller ones. I am just now almost finished selling the pieces I don't wear and I'm putting all of the proceed money into a bank account just for jewelry. Good luck!

I need to do this! With bags too! Luckily gold keeps going up while I put off selling my jewelry.

Thanks. Yes I have things I could get rid of that I am not using at all!!!

Where does one sell gemstone rings? I would hate to sell them for scrap!

I would also recommend waiting and trying on as many stones and styles as possible so that you are sure you will be happy with the upgrade. I have upgraded twice and am finally satisfied now, but I waited and did a lot of research to find my perfect upgrade. I then stumbled across it in the diamond district while on vacation in NY a few years ago and it is perfect! With a piece that you will (hopefully) be wearing every day for the rest of your life, you should smile every time you look at it. If you watch any of the cheesy TLC shows, it is like that show "Say Yes To The Dress." You want the feeling that those brides get when they choose their perfect dress. A little dramatic, I know, but then you will know it is the right one. Good luck with your choice! In the meantime, wear your VCA! It is too pretty to be sitting in a drawer or safe waiting for the right occasion. I wear mine to the grocery store, Target, and Gymboree classes with my twins :) If I had to wait for the right occasion, it would never be worn.

A nice PFER found me a great stone! It is over out budget, but doable!

It came back with great reports , but it is 7K over our budget.
I am unsure on what to do!

well...that's a lot over budget. if you sell several unused bags, and some of your high end jewelry you don't wear (VCA, etc) will it make up the 7k? If not, keep looking.

It was the 1.90 you found! LOL.

that said, I do not want to rush anything and think I am going to hold off on the 1.5 for now and manage some finances and see what we can do.
I don't want to dip too much into savings. Now is not the time to mess with $$ for us.

I might just get the matching band to my ering now and wait a year or so.
Hubby graduates from school tis year and if he does not get a better job. I have no buisness getting a new ring! I rather get myself something jewelry wise and keeping the extra funds. IDK. LOL. I am still a mess with this!

About 2 (3 max) Chanel flaps should bring in 7k easily.

xxxx not allowed

Sorry!

ETA: I posted that before I read your last post. I didn't realize you guys were so young and your husband was still in school! I think you should wait.
