Last September when I was in Las Vegas the SA that sold me my potiron Bolide tried to sell me a pink ostrich Kelly. It was the most beautiful bag I had ever seen. I still regret not taking that baby home with me. I just couldn't justify DH spending another $13,000 for it at that moment. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! Shopmom, I think any bag in ostrich would be lovely. Go for it!

I love ostrich as much as the next girl, D, but you should know that according to Claude ostrich is the quickest to fade in color than any of the other leathers. To maintain the richness of the color, you'll have to take care not to leave it under bright light, not even for an hour, or the color will fade. My SA has shown me wallets and bags, for example -- display items and new in box items, and there is a visible difference between the ones that are exposed to light and those holed up in their boxes.

Otherwise, ostrich is a fab leather choice.

SM, you need a Kelly or Bolide in gold ostrich. TDF and so durable. And lightweight!! On gold, specifically, I like the darkening of the handles! Very broken-in-casual-carefree-chic!
Very shopmom!!!

S'Mom, you are up to no good! :p
Ostrich is a little lighter than the other leathers (I don't find it a drastic difference...nothing like toile or crinolin). I had a bad mishap on the floor of a plane with a fuchsia ostrich Birkin...a big wet stain on the bottom that I discovered a day later. I wetted it with a damp paper towel, blotted and blurred the edges and it dried perfectly. A tiny area of color loss, otherwise, no evidence of the tragedy. A great leather. Am a bit worried about how the handles will darken over time but so far not much.

Ginab - great information that I did not know. I will be careful with my ostrich in the Florida summer sun!!!

Oh man ... well I guess that solved the mystery of why one of my bags is darker than the other one then. Damn, now i'm worried ... I don't want it to turn into pastel pink ten years from now ... they can't redye the bag, can they?
