You know......last year in NYC I saw a woman walking down Madison with a gorgeous gold Ostrich Bolide and she looked SO chic with that bag! I think a Bolide in Ostrich would be so lovely....

tPF ALERT! Shopmom is on the lookout for a 31cm Gold Ostrich Bolide. Careful if you see one, she might run over you inadvertently while trying to get it!

LOL!!!!! GK.....I'd have to locate another lung to chuck AND the soul of some distant relative to sell in order to afford something Ostrich at this point!!!!!!!

Ostrich ... Here are the pros:

- Light weight: not as light as chevre, but a lot lighter than other leathers
- Anti-scratch: there're times where I would inadvertently scrape against it and not even a trace of the nick
- Deals very well with rain and liquid: I've gotten a corner of it rained on due to water dripping from the umbrella when I got out of the car and on another instance I witnessed a woman accidentally spilling wine on her ostrich bag. In both cases, there were no traces of any liquid 15 minutes after the incident
- Structured: it holds the shape very well so if you like structured bags, ostrich is a good leather to use

Here're the cons:

- Handle turning colors
- Rigidness: I know it said it was a good thing BUT it does become a bit frustrating at times when I try to close the darn bag. I have to keep pulling and tugging the straps on my bag to get that done (several tpf members have witnessed my struggle on that one)

Other than that, I think ostrich is one of the best leather from Hermes.

I enjoy my ostrich as I think it holds up well. As others have said, it holds up well in the rain. I say go for it. I love how the ostrich bags look. So elegant. And one in gold would be stunning.

Ohhh I love Ostrich. It is so light weight. If I ever get a hold of it, it would be either 32 cm Kelly in white or gold, GH or 30 cm Birkin in Gold GH.

But then I will be very happy even with Ostrich Bolide. :p Anyone know about the price for Ostrich Bolide?

BTW there is one vert Anis (sp) - green Ostrich in 35 Birkin in Hermes Houston and it is Gorgeous! I tried it but I passed. I prefer Gold color if I was going it spend 14K something..

Anyone interested, my SA is John.:graucho:

SoCal.....it's mostly black! LOL!!!! But my Kelly collection is now down to a select few vintage black Box, Chocolate Box and vintage Havanne Croc.

What I HAVE been thinking is that while I have these wonderful Kelly's that I adore beyond reason....I don't have one that can take lousy wet weather. I was just thinking this morning about which leathers I could consider for bad weather without it being Togo or Epsom or VL......and I thought of Ostrich.....but actually, I'm open to other suggestions too!

S'mom, how about chevre??

I have that one in 27 cm, and have used it for over 2 years and it still looks great! Even though the city is dirty, and I did get cought in the rain a few times...it actually looks perfect, and it is very light.
