Newbie here! I’m trying to buy an exotic leather birkin in Hong Kong from a trusted reseller but they said they can’t sell exotic leather bags to anyone in USA. Has this happened to anyone else before?
Does the seller not have CITES documentation? That’s the only reason I could think that they wouldn’t be able to sell to the USA.

No, ostrich (at least the kind Hermès uses) is CITES exempt. Bit of an odd situation, but I suppose it’s the seller’s prerogative. Did you ask the seller why they won’t export to the USA?
Hello! :) yes, they said it is due to Hong Kong’s export laws of exotic leathers. So unfortunate, I’ve been looking for this exact bag for so long!

I am happy that you had some nice days in Paris, though not scoring a bag and having a not so nice SA
Mind sharing the one store that was honest in the descriptions, please?

Had a unpleasant experience with C. square, bag was clearly treated w/ a color...
Sure. I visited many vintage stores trying to find vintage Kelly 28 in box leather. p

Collectors Square didn’t have anything to show in showroom. You can pick a bag you like on their website and schedule appointment to see it. They showed me some on iPad but it would be few day to deliver them to showroom so I just left.

Old Fashioned Club (Ex:Egerie Paris) and VALOIS VINTAGE PARIS under the same owner. They had a Kelly blue marine that was definitely either repainted or conditioned by 3d party but they were trying to convince me it was not. They were very sketchy. I didn’t return to this store. It’s the store that I was writing about on previous posts. Here is a snap of the bag. It’s suspiciously shiny for a 1986 bag and no wear and tear to the corners

The other one was Corner Lux where we found a black Kelly and it was look ok until I opened and saw this stamp. I immediately knew it cannot be real H stamp but they were trying to convince me it was not repainted or altered and it was real Kelly.

The only one store that was transparent was Monogram. I didn’t take any pics because I was planning to return next day. They had 3 vintage Kelly. 1 one obviously badly repainted (price was €3000) when I asked they confirmed it was repainted by third party. One was pretty worn out but wasn’t repainted and it was size 35 with price around €6000. And one Kelly was Kelly 1 (if I remember correctly 1996) in black color and not repainted for sure because I could see corners wear and tear. Also this bag has hardware changed and handle with double ring and the strap ordered at H spa. Stamp was crisp and sharp. They had original receipt from H spa that they showed us where I could see how much owner paid for strap and hardware change. Price for bag was €9500. Considering that it has a strap and double ring and original H receipt I think it was ok price but not a steal. I found that bag yesterday. And I decided to think about it for a day. But after today experience at FSH I decided it that it’s just not meant to be for me to return with a bag this time.

My advice for anyone who is looking for a vintage bag in Paris to ask for receipts from H spa. Also take a lot of high quality pics from different angles and videos and go to H spa and show those pics to specialists and ask their opinion. I found it quite interesting to visit vintage shops and I saw many interesting pieces. So it was quite an experience. As a person who likes in person shopping I def was enjoying visiting vintage shops.

FWIW, I purchased a croc Kelly cut from Valois Vintage. Was in excellent condition. No issues.

Sigh, just took a peak at FP and realized the price are starting to come back up for quota bags. It seems like resale prices for H were very low earlier this year and slowly creeping back up. Has anyone else been tracking prices?

That is my impression as well. I feel like size 25 (B or K) never softened much and is still holding, but I have noticed prices rising again for B30s. I don't track C at all so can't comment on that. Larger Ks and other bags can still be found at better prices IME.

How is this considered “excellent” condition and does anyone have experience negotiating with love luxury based on pictures not matching stated condition? (If it is considered excellent by people here I’d love to know 🤷‍♀️)

The usual suspects (Ann's, FF, TRR, Collector's Square) have been discussed above in this thread, and have their pros and cons. There are a number of Japanese resellers on eBay (some with physical locations) that have also been discussed. The problem is that there are so many factors that go into being comfortable with buying pre-loved, and it's often a very personal decision. First and foremost is of course authentication. Some may argue but I think many members of this forum will agree and have articulated, again, all over this thread, that bababebi is the gold standard for Hermes authentication.

After that, it's a question of how far off of a boutique purchase are you willing to go, at what price, and with what set of inconveniences? I don't mean to sound flip, because I've done this very thing myself when on a mission -- you could type in 'black leather Hermes Kelly 32' in an Ebay search and start whittling it down. Eliminate sellers by any criteria you feel would make the purchase a 'hard' no. If you research leathers first, and have a hardware preference, that may help you eliminate another swath of candidates. Then it's zoom in and have a look.

I've seen bags at other resale sites but wouldn't mention them because I've no personal experience with them. That's what this thread is for. If you're a bit chagrinned at not finding a handy list, or places you've not considered, think about what you're asking. Frankly, were I in the market for those specs, and found something I was considering, I wouldn't tell you either. I've had things that I've had my eye on appear in the 'Post Web Finds' thread and thought "oh no, I wish that hadn't been posted!" and sure enough some other lucky person pounced. Again, not intending to be flip, unpleasant, or to gate keep; I do wish you every luck in your search, but beyond some basic guidelines and guardrails, it's a bit of a solo occupation. :flowers:
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! Very helpful!

Perhaps they made a mistake for the condition category. The condition line at the bottom lists it as excellent, but the item description itself says “very good, vintage condition” which seems more appropriate.

I finally found a discontinued bag I have been searching for - the Octogone bag in craie. They have had it for sale for at least 1.5 years as best I can tell, so I assume they will sell it to me, hopefully at an ok price.

BUT. The bag is in Hong Kong, I am in Europe and they do not have a website to shop from! I found them via Instagram, and only the algorithm gods know why I haven’t seen it before. My questions are now:

Does anyone know the “Noble store” in Hong Kong?

And how would you go about paying without the risk of never receiving a bag?

Hope someone can help me!
