I'm not sure if we're allowed to talk about this or not... Mods, please delete if I shouldn't talking about this!

But I sell all my bags on The Real Real, which provides you with 80% of the bag's selling prices if priced above $5K (which both will be for sure.) Their Birkins (not sure about Jypsiere though) are priced well above retail, so you should be able to at the very least, break even (though I think you'll make more!), pending the bag's specs. They do virtual consignment and offer at-home pick-up.

On the other hand, if you're looking for quick cash, then I'd go with something like Fashionphile, where they will offer to buy you out on the spot. Their cut is bigger though.

Ebay takes the lowert commission as far as I know, it's just a longer waiting game, especially if you have no prior selling history / verified reviews.

Hi Olibelli,

Thanks for your reply :). I'm not too well informed about the general pricings of these things but when I spoke to some friends, they seemed to think that in general (especially given the bags are both brand new, never taken out of the box as mentioned), that I should definitely be able to sell it well above retail. If this isn't the case, I'd probably rather just sell it to friends at cost price, since I have a few friends who would be very keen to buy, but didn't want me to forego the potential profit. I guess once you factor in commission fees it starts to become a lot closer. Given I'm in no rush, I think I'm more inclined to go down the lowest commission route (i.e. eBay), or else just sell to a friend, are there any other similar platforms you know of?

Thanks

I’ve seen a few responses in here about Vestiaire Collective - has anyone bought from them recently? And if you have, did you buy from a personal seller or a third party company selling their bags on VC? How was your experience? Thank you kindly.

I sell on VC all the time, but I just purchased my first Hermès item from VC.

I purchased a B35 from a professional seller/3rd party on VC last week and it is expected to arrive today or tomorrow (fingers crossed! I am refreshing my UPS tracking page hourly ). I can update with my experience once the bag arrives.

Thank you so much! I would be eager to hear about your experience. I just purchased a bolide myself from a 3rd party seller and am a little nervous since VC Paris has not received the order yet for the final authentication. It is coming from the UAE. Perhaps it is impatience...

This is key- a lot of the experience depends on your seller and the shipping company. The sellers have 7 days to mail your item! I think that is a bit too long. As a seller, I always try to send out an item on the same day, but I also live in a country where everything is closed on Sundays and there are a ton of holidays so even I had one Sunday/Monday holiday situation where I could not get my item sent until day 3 after the order came in. As a seller, I am sometimes presented with 2 shipping options- UPS or DHL. DHL can take weeks to get an item from Berlin to VC so I always go with UPS now which usually only takes a 1-2 days to arrive to VC.

Might as well give my VC buying experience so far since it is practically done... I am currently on a waitlist at Hermès for a B35, but since I don't know if I will get that call next week or in 2 years, I figured this will tide me over.

All in all, VC experience is good, not great...

1. I gave preference to professional sellers since you can return the item. This is what VC website states, but I am guessing they don't make it easy to return- it would have to be a glaring misrepresentation of what they presented on VC and VC should catch anything like that during their authentication. With a professional seller, you can at least research their history. I also saw the bag I wanted listed on various other sites so it gave me peace of mind that many eyes looks at the professional photos and deemed it a real Hermès.

2. Side note, I did pay bababebi for full authentication before purchasing. Again, because it was a professional seller, there were good photos for her to look at.

3. The payment option that I wanted to explore did not show up at checkout even though it was advertised for the item. That annoyed me and VC customer support took days to respond (despite claiming to have a 24/7 chat option) and was no help at all.

4. My seller was awesome! I ordered on a Thursday night and I could see the bag was sent out the next day. VC does give you a good snapshot of what is happening each day.

5. VC accepted the package on Monday afternoon (but seller, VC and I are all in EU countries).

6. VC completed their authentication and by Wednesday morning (but this can take up to 4 days) and I received notice that it passed authentication. They shipped it out using UPS Wednesday afternoon. Now I wait.

I bought a Balenciaga bag a few years ago from VC and was pretty disappointed. The handle was all ripped up and that was definitely not disclosed in the item information, but it was a private seller so I couldn't return. I was disappointed in VC for accepting it, but it was a few hundred bucks and I threw it in my closet and kind of forgot about it. I am hoping for a difference experience with a bag that costs thousands, but realistically, VC is not really looking out for the buyer once they have your $$$ so fingers crossed on this bag.

Enjoy your Bolide! I just bought one at the H store last month and it convinced me that I need more H bags in my life. :)

Update on previous post: my Birkin arrived from VC this morning. I purchased it Thursday night last week and received it Friday morning.

I’m not going to lie, I found the reseller thing all a little stressful to the point that I swore for the next Birkin, I would just wait for the H store to call me once I am off the Birkin waitlist, but...

Now I have a pristine B for a great price all within a week and it feels like it was all worth going the reseller route. I can’t tell that it was used at all, but it‘s older (2014) and not a hugely popular color (green- I am nuts for Hermès greens) so I think that’s why I got a good price. Receipt was included and with authenticity verified by bababebi, I will sleep well tonight.

I am so happy to hear that you had such a great experience! Hermes greens are stunning. I got the notification that VC received my bag for verification. I'll share how it goes here as well once I receive the bolide!

The Birkin you might get well above retail depending on size, leather, color. The Jypsiere I don't think so.
I don't think this is verboten to discuss -commissions are public for the most part - - eBay will take the least commission and has a program specifically for luxury bags. However, Ann's Fabulous Finds and TheRealReal won't be that far off eBay's take, and you don't have to do all the work and stress out about eBay scams. Fashionphile will give you a quote - in my experience their offers are not great but with a new Birkin in box it is worth trying.
Take a look at the reseller thread as it includes seller experiences as well as buyer experiences. Good luck.

I've brought Hermes from VC only small leather goods and Hermes watches-I've been generally very happy with them-When I brought a Jypsiere from them and the item reached them for authentication They reported that it was in much worse condition than stated on the listing and sent me photographic evidence suggesting I should offer the seller a lower price or could cancel the sale.
I cancelled and got my money back .
Another time buying a Hapi they informed me that the size didn't conform to the measurements that were to be expected of the item and cancelled the sale.
I've sold Bottega bags through them too and been happy as a seller although I do use their concierge service so they do all the negotiating-I pay extra commission for that but it takes the hassle away and they deal with all the shipping
