Well said, Perigord!

I, for one have always assumed that the pic on an ebay listing is the same as the item for sale. What lessons learned!

So, I have one more question to ask sellers before buying on eBay, "Are the pics of the item for sale?" and I now know to watermark all of my images posted on TPF.

Thanks.

Please read the above mentioned thread to the end. I am the Ebay seller and I used an uncopyrighted unwatermarked photo that came up on a Google search under the search term "Lindy" that I had every reason to believe was public domain. The photo was taken so perfectly that I thought it came from a Hermes advertisement. I used it as the cover photo for my listing (as many people on Ebay use photos from advertisements) to sell the same color Lindy, and other than that one photo I used all my own photos. I am an honest seller of only authentic items and not the "thief" or "scammer" the op has called me.

I think it is fine to use a "stock photo" if you are selling items of a nature which has many pieces and large quantity of the same item in stock, for example, an iphone cover, clothings where you are a distributor, or consumables.

For "unique" pieces like a luxury item, especially pre-owned items, the savvy customer wants to know the condition of the item. Thus if a photo of another item is shown, there would naturally be suspicions of the listing and the integrity of the seller. There are many complaints about "Item not as described" when people buy through ebay so it is only reasonable that the customer wants to see a picture of the real condition of the item, and if there are any flaws, to avoid a nasty shock when they get the item. Just letting you know the mindset so that you can be more hardworking when doing your listing in future.

Thank you for coming forward to explain, so that we know that this is not a sinister event!

And I'll be sure to watermark any photos I post on the internet. So important.

There were a few cases where the picture and the actual item received is different. One of the ebay resellers of Hermes bags was removed from the recommended list of resellers here as it turned out she was just a middleman for some of the bags listed. How can you claim that the bag you are selling is authentic if you don't even see it?

This is so different from the practises of recommended sellers like sandiaexchange, kaleidoplace and hautegallery, where these sellers have actually scrutinised the bag and approved it for sale with a thorough condition report in the listings. To me as a customer, that's what "buy with confidence" means, because I'm getting their expertise with the product as well, as I can be confident they have inspected the item before selling it to me.

Because who says a reseller won't be taken in with a fake from where ever they get their bags? Any Tom Dick or Harry can be a reseller, but who knows where their bags come from, or whether they themselves are scammers or the scammed?

Get the seller to take a picture of the bag with today's newspaper to prove that the bag is in his/her possession. Run away if you get excuses. Of course, authenticate it too.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed understanding for this situation and for the good advice! I'm going to learn to watermark as well!

Hi all!

I did a search about kaleidoplace and seems like there have been website issues in the past. I can't get on the site. Is it down for now/for good? I can't find an eBay store either. Any info would be much appreciated.

It's just down for maintenance. I checked it this morning and it was working fine. There is an eBay store with the same name and she currently has several items for sale.

Just had an excellent Ebay experience with TPF member thingseyelike, who is just wonderful in every way. I could not be more pleased and would love to buy from her again. :flowers::flowers::flowers:

Excuse me now while I go cuddle the unbelievably gorgeous vintage black box Bolide she just sent me.
