This is really bad nutrition advice in general. Zero protein in the diet is a horrible idea.

Additionally "never cut it with surgery or it will grow double" is a huge amount of BS. I've had scar revisions done surgically, and this has never, ever proven to be true. It would be downright laughable if it wasn't scary that someone may take such advice as being the truth.

Again, you're statement that keloids will not fade by any other treatment than time is again incorrect. I am currently having success with PDL treatments--not "time."
AGREE, no proteins IS a bad idea....

We get our B12 from animal proteins, and trust me, there are some nasty things that occur when you have too little or low B12 levels (dealing with that myself..).

i also agree that cutting out those foods is definitely NOT going to do anything.. i was vegan for 2 years, still vegetarian, and i have a really big keloid on my chest, and 3 smaller ones on my shoulder.

I hate knowing that i was too stupid to do anything when they were tiny, and i thought they were bad then! mine just seem to grow and grow.

i'm currently trying to soak a cotton ball in tea tree and lavender oil and tape it to the ones on my shoulder when i sleep.. its kind of like it burns them into a different, shiny, softer, texture....
not sure if it's good or not, but i dont really care because any change to their texture and look is a good change to me. i'll see what happens after i keep drowning them in the stuff for a month or so.

Jamiec is wrong. Listen, or I should say he's only correct HALF of his part. Let me explain further from where he left out.

First and foremost, it's not the protein or chicken hormone injection directly that worsen the keloid, but zinc that promote the collagen on the skin. As collagen is the skin formation which mainly the source comes from zinc and protein is for muscle formation from the source meat that we eat. So don't get mixed up with protein for muscle, zinc for skin collagen. The reason eating more red meat (eg cow, goat) gives more zinc, that's why it promotes collagen formation. Chicken is the lowest zinc among all the livestock. Fish is almost minimal. However human needs minimal intake of zinc, like a chicken breast or fish is sufficient, excess will promote aggressive skin formation, something we tried to avoid. Definitely cut down red meat, chicken and fish is OK. Becareful seashells food such as shrimp crab lobster has the highest zinc, sometimes even higher than red meat. As for vege, you just have to avoid garlic and pumpkin because these two promote collagen formation. Actually garlic is the worst because it promotes collagen formation and increase blood flow.

The next thing I want to talk about is the blood flow. Not talking about high blood pressure, rather how fast your blood can circulate under certain condition. So that means alchohol is bad for you. However, the blood flow issue can be compromise once you avoid food that promote collagen. What am I talking about here? let me further explain, because increase in blood flow is just complementing or helping faster the collagen formation, once you get down the collagen formation problem, then you could drink alchohol moderately. Note: you have to abstain from sugar and collagen-food for at least 3 months.

Didn't you see the word sugar just now? oo yea, the ultimate factor that worsens the keloid condition is SUGAR!!! Sugar is the worse enemy of keloid ever. Avoid sugar in any form, especially fructose corn syrup! for all keloid sufferer, you can now forget about sugar forever!! Why why why tell me why? The reason is sugar has EXTREMELY high flammatory effect on human, etc skin. this is what actually make your keloid condition getting bigger and bigger by itself. Just because sugar promote flammatory effect. to couple this you have to eat no simple sugar, but complex sugar from fresh vegetables , fruits and fish etc are welcomed, not those processed food. This is even worse than seashell food ( should have explained in the first section but want to put answer to jamiec's misconception first). For from now on, you have to religiously look at nutrition facts and ingredients of a food. you would be surprised how much sugar intake you have, even cereal. Seriously you all really stop taking simple sugar, try not to eat outside that much because they use alot of sugar (sucrose, fructose, high fructose). even your ready-serve tomato paste has it.

Besides sugar, Saturated fat and trans fat are another killer which promotes flammatory effect, second after sugar. if possible cut down on your fat, it's also a supplementary towards sugar because if you have low fat diet, then part of your excessive sugar will convert to become fat and part will flow down your blood again and again before converting to become fat, so what happen is you eat too much fat content and also too much fat in your body, it makes sugar stays in your blood longer, hence it further the effect of flammatory. However monosaturated fat(fish oil) is the best, it carries away other fat. But why sugar and fat are worse off but we don't feel itchy right away, because sugar and fat are long time process in your body chemical, and interestingly they are the main driving factors.

And another thing is that salt has to cut down to around 500-1500mg of sodium (half the supposed lobbyied figure on US nutrition facts), but must have at least 500mg has a human body need, even plain vege will get to 500mg count of sodium a day. I still have not figured out how to relate to keloid or collagen formation. Just a side note that excessive salt is not good. A tablespoon soy sauce has about 900mg, moderate yourself.

By ranking of things you need to get rid off:
1)Sugar (especially corn syrup high fructose, fructose)
2)Fat (only saturated and trans)
3) Garlic
4) Seashell food
5) Red meats
6) alchohol
7)salt

Notice that if you get rid of 1 & 2 , then the 3,4,5 can consume in a little bit
, and 6 can consume in moderation. As long as you get rid of 1 and 2, you would notice the difference. I think if you really get rid of all those it would be better result.

Besides, you should eat more high fibre and also consume more detoxicate green plant e.g. wheat grass juice and brocolli sprout. IMHO, it would cleanse your blood or reduce the high sugar flammatory content and also those excessive collagen agents.

Sharing my info, good luck guys.

P.S. you guys really have to learn read nutrition facts.

Jamiesc, what about protein from vegetables or legumes? cuz we need protein for energy, right? What aBout the chicken that don't have antibiotics or growth hormone injection (like ones they sell at whole foods or other natural food stores)?

I've found that when I eat something spicy or drink alcohol, my scars hurt & itch more than ever...

pma09002, I hate to say it but you're spouting off some really unsubstantiated BS there. There is no known reason for why some people develop keloids and hypertrophic scars but others don't. I think I'll follow peer-reviewed scientific data instead of something some random uninformed person spouts off incoherently on an internet message board.

PS--You've really got to learn how to not be condescending towards others, especially when you really don't know what you're talking about, because it makes you look like, well, a donkey.

I had a small keloid on my chest due to an injury and it was injected with cortisone which flattened. Usually injections depending on size take a few times for injections and the doctor dermatologist/surgeon can change the strength. Too many injections are bad if it's not helping. Lucky for me it worked and the doctor can give you a silicon sheet that you can cut out and wear on your scar if injections don't work to smooth it out or make it go down. Surgery is not always warranted because if the injections don't work some surgeons believe it if they remove it a keloid could return bigger than before. I don't know about the whole protein thing but I've been a vegetarian since I was in 7th grade. But a person shouldn't cut protein out of their diet.. that's bad advice.

I know this is an old thread but I urgently need help since it is the weekend and I cannot just call up my dermatologist.

I get keloids on my chest and usually go in monthly to get cortisone injections to flatten them and then the Palomar Lux G laser to reduce the redness so it is less visible.

This time the laser was set too high so a few blisters have formed on my chest  Now I'm super scared even more keloids will form ...

Should I put Polysporin on the blister since it says it minimizes scarring and keloids are basically scars? Or will Polysporin actually end up CREATING a keloid since it is also supposed to speed healing? I wasn't sure since keloids are supposed to be my body's overactive response to healing so speeding it up sounded like a bad idea.

Any help would be really appreciated! Thank you!

Apply an ointment (Aquaphor, triple antibiotic, or vaseline) and keep the lesions covered. Call your dermatologist on Monday morning or ASAP to schedule an appointment!

OP, is polysporin like murisporin and the triple antibiotic like mentioned above?
A dermatologist sadly will have the best guidance for you, I couldn't have prevented the ones I got either.

Ignore everyone. Take it from me. I have keloids on my face, chest, and arms..everywhere. I went to a dermatologist and he started injecting me. Well anyway during this time I stopped going to him and started eating healthier and a lot of sushi. I noticed that a few were feeling flat and two on my chest disappeared completely..only for two more to come up in a different place.
Recently, I went back to consider having the others surgically removed. I didn't have the money. I went back to my roots of pescatarian from the Standard American diet. The only difference is that I am not eating sushi. I am consuming Iodine pills which is like seaweed and kelp and I am consistently taking a chewable hair, skin, and nails vitamin, and a b12 EVERY DAY. The largest keloid that I have I am waking up every day to it getting smaller and flatter!!!!! All of them are becoming more and more flat!!! I consume 90 to a gallon of water a day.
I was told that when they itch it is growing. I think not!! When they itch or sting I literally squeeze the keloid as tight as possible until it hurts. The biggest keloid that is really flat is always itchy since I began this new diet.

Also, when diagnosed with vitiligo. I started to eat a lot of peaches and plums every day. Went back to the dermatologist he was shook! The melanin in my skin was completely back and the white patches were gone.

adding to this thread years later… I have two keloids (technically three but two merged together) on my chest. Does anyone recommend using silicone scar sheets/tape? I never keep them on for long but I worry it’ll make my keloids worse in the long run.
