What used to blow me away my first few years here as a member,
was how many people in the AT Prada thread would post what seemed like 3 requests a day
and this went on for YEARS…. the VERY same people day after day requesting
authentications. I would come back a year later, and it seemed
they were still doing this.

I always thought to myself, Come on, what is preventing these same people from learning how
to spot a fake after this many requests? And why have they not learned anything
in that amount of time?

maybe that is an exaggeration, but, that is what it seemed like to me..
It is no longer that way now… But, 3 - 5 years ago.. ???

I try and stay off of the AT thread, if at all possible. Too tempting. I use it to look up sellers who have a bag I might be interested in.

I think that even though before I joined Tpf I looked up so much information on fake LV bags how-to spot them I watched lots of YouTube videos and even though now I think I could spot a fake I wouldn't take that risk I follow the ATLV to see if I can see on the ones deemed fake why and even ones I think hmmmm that aren't real and the are! Way to many super fakes out there

Of course… I know what you mean… :smile1:
I do the same thing, and many times, I will just ask for an authentication
just to confirm the bag is real. Just for backup.

BUT, I am talking about people who were asking for multiple AT Requests
daily, or maybe just weekly….
BUT, this went on for YEARS a year or 2.. the same people asking for authentications on almost every other page… It was quite eyeopening. :smile1:

They were highly likely to be sellers who were taking advantage of the free authentication service for their business.

Absolutely true! I've personally caught more than my share of sellers on the Prada thread. Some of them post on purpose hoping to get in a little extra air time (aka: free advertising) of whatever they are selling. I've called out a lot of sellers and they're generally the ones that get pissy with us. You can only ignore rudeness for so long before you snap.

:woohoo:

of course if you are choosing to use AF and others of their ilk as your 'go to' source of authentications the number and quality of the pictures probably wouldn't matter.

I always check on other posts made by people requesting authentications in the Prada forum. It is amazing how many don't contribute a thing------- they just take their free advice.

Never ceases to amaze me how lazy people have gotten. Want an answer to something? Don't bother googling it yourself. Just post a question and let others do it for you. And whatever you do, don't do a Search this Forum to see the umpteen times your question has already been asked and answered. So it takes a little effort to become accustomed to learning to navigate here. Anything worth having is worth working for. If you can find the AT thread you want, you should be able to follow a few fruitful instructions once you get there. I have no idea where the 10 Step Method (gasp!) is required. In Prada it is 1) item name 2) item# 3) seller ID 4) link 5) comments. And even if the dread 10 whole steps are required what the hail else do people who spend hours browsing /shopping for the item have better to do?

Totally agreed on the bold words. If u can spend so many hours in front of your computer shopping, reading the instructions to post properly is a small simple matter! What's more it's FREE authentication, for goodness sake!

Honestly this is what our society has come to. No personal accountability or responsibility, instant gratification, everyone else's fault.

The 10 steps are set up in the LV AT forum to answer your question....and being lazy doesn't really come into play here, at least not for me.
In reading through what IS required on the LV AT forum it CAN BE daunting to those who are new to the forums and it's very easy to see how mistakes can be made is all I'm saying.
Of course people should do what's required, that was never in question.
After all, it is a free service and it has helped many people over the years.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just saying it needs to be re-vamped and made easier for both authenticators and those seeking authentication.

I visit many other types forums for my multitude of other interests beyond Prada bags. Many are larger and more segmented than tPF but as a person looking for help, I fully expect to do my share of the work to follow that forum's rules and requirements. If it's daunting, then tough. As a visitor, you do the work. There's a rhyme and a reason set by that forum's administrators and we don't need to understand what it might be. It's precious little to expect someone requesting a free service to spend some time learning the lay of the land on a new forum.

I totally agree with MissBanff and her comment on this point: our society is lazy and entirely self-absorbed, demanding someone else hold their widdle hands through life.

This thread has gone on for 37 pages now and the whole idea is to simplify, streamline, and make the AT forums easier to use.
MOST if not all agree with this simple concept.

Of course there are people who are "lazy and entirely self-absorbed" who come here for AT's.
Those are the very people who should be weeded out so the AT's don't have to waste their precious time on them......I think we agree on this concept!

And still nothing has changed........

Dear Truly Valued Authenticators,

I just joined the forum and this is my first post. However, I have read EVERY ATLV post from 2009 to present. I have also read many of the posts on this thread and all of the posts on the LV thread about who should authenticate.

Clearly you all are over-worked! In the LV thread there are dozens if not hundreds of requests in a day and only 4 qualified authenticators who have lives to live. 99.99% of the time, the requests are not in the proper format. The frustration is palatable and understandable.

That is why I decided not to post any requests for AT, despite my need and desire. Instead I went looking for a thread on recommended paid authentication services. I did not want add any more to your burden. I ended up here.

What occurs to me is that clearly the ATLV thread, and perhaps others if as busy, needs help, not necessarily with more "authenticators" but perhaps more administrative in nature. Such as reviewing a request and identifying whether it complies with all elements required for authentication and if not working with the requester to get the info needed. Then once the administrative member has got all the info they could somehow forward it on to the authenticators. That way the authenticators do not have to be worn down by the minutia of all the back and forth with the incomplete posts. I saw that one member on the ATLV was trying to do this and it seemed helpful. Sorry short term memory is not what it used to be so I cannot with confidence post her name but I think she may be on this thread. Lov-LV or something like that. Kudos to her for stepping up.

I am CLEARLY not qualified to authenticate. But I want to help. I spend a lot more time reading than posting and although I have lurked on a few threads, I have not been compelled to post until now. If you think it would be helpful, I could at least reply to those without seller links and get that and with more guidance perhaps get the pics you need.

Thank you for your time. My goal was to offer assistance, if I have only increased your stress level, my apologies. If I have been presumptive in my assistance, I apologize for that as well.

Karen

Hey Karen - welcome to tPF! Now you're official - congrats on your first post! And a good one it was, too. :smile1:

Since I didn't see anyone else directly respond to you, I just wanted to say that I think the question you posed is best directed specifically to the LV authenticators.

I was new quite recently (and am still new!) but what I recommend is that you find places on the LV or other forums where you feel comfortable diving in and contributing, to at least get your post count up a tiny bit and to establish a history of posting so that anyone interested in who you are / what you're about has something to browse through. Then, PM one or more of the authenticators on the LV thread and introduce yourself, and ask them if they want the assistance you're proposing - the same kind of stuff that LVlvoe_bug does. And also reach out to LVlvoe_bug - maybe you can team up? That's what I've done in the few places where I hang out the most. It's (usually ) a very friendly community around here and I bet they'll be happy to have some help!

Gosh, I'm sorry!

Agree with what devik has said Karen - if you read this, feel free to PM me when you can with any questions about the ATLV - I'd be happy to try and help.
