Tote bag troubles

I understand the love for the LV Neverfull, and I've tried several times to get one and....I just couldn't do it. Couldn't make myself put down that kind of money. But that's just me. If you're looking for a workhorse bag that you won't worry too much about, I find the Madewell Transport totes to be fantastic leather workhorse bags. They have different sizes and colors--leather and canvas--and they look fabulous without breaking the bank. I also have several Longchamp bags that I use for work and travel and they do it all. I've taken them to dusty horse shows, to the beach, all over the world, and they hold up well and still look polished. I think part of having a workhorse is not having to worry about it when you put it in very conditions you bought it for. Good luck!

I have and love my 2 LV NF MMs, and while I do put them through their paces, I don't use them in the capacity you're intending to (they are work bags for me but never get set on a floor - ever).

I would absolutely go for something cheaper. A bag that you can ding and scratch and get dirty without having a heart attack over each of these events. Coated canvas is indeed super durable, or perhaps something made in a saffiano leather that won't show scuffing and wear as obviously as other types.

If you are thinking about nylon maybe check out Tumi. Tumi nylon is pretty durable, plus it has five year warranty. I have a Longchamp Le Pliage Cuir, while I like the leather and weight I am not a fan of the design that it has both zipper and flap. The flap got in the way every time I use the zipper. Also the rolled handles are less comfortable than wide straps IMO.

Exactly, I would never treat my other LV handbags like this tote will be treated (sitting on the floor etc...) so I can’t justify the cost of a NF.

Any reco’s on another canvas brand that’s inexpensive but hardy? I like the idea of a bag with structure, which at this point is my only reservation about a nylon bag. (Although I guess I could invest in an organizer... And I think I’ve ruled out leather. I’m afraid it’s too delicate of a material for my intended use.

I literally busted out laughing when I read this!!!!! I forever seem to be carrying around my family’s stuff as well as my own. Everyone’s cell phone (cuz the kids wear shorts with no pockets) hubbys wallet and sunglasses cuz they’re bulky, what ever prize darling daughter won out if the $.50 machine. Not to mention the normal mom stuff, bandaids, hair bands, comb, hand sani, etc... And I wonder why my bag is so heavy!?!?!?

I’ll definitely take a look. I’m leaning toward a nylon bag due to the care free/easy cleaning aspect, especially if i can have one big enough for all of the extra stuff not able to be stored in my handbag and look chic!?!?!?. :graucho::graucho: And while I love LV, I just can’t reconcile the price for a bag that is most certainly not going to get the same baby’ing my other handbags get. This is a “work” bag for me. Not a handbag. Thank you so much for your help!!!!:hugs:
I am also in the same boat .... I followmthis thread with interest because my heart says Neverfull DE and my brain says stick with your Le Pliage ! I had a custum made nylon Le pliage which is very nice and I also have their large shoulder bag neo milberry ( kind of dark purple ) which is very stylish . I much prefer the neo line . It is a workhorse . I live in Canada with harsh winters with salt, slush etc. When it gets too dirty I put in in the washer on delicate and hang it dry. Hard to beat .... but one day I would like a NV DE GM !

I was looking at the Neo line today and I have to admit I love the shoulder strap option and the smaller handles seem like they would fit really well over a rolling luggage handle. And the black on black looks so classy. And the fact that it can take abuse and still look great is EXACTLY what I was looking for (even if it doesn’t make my heart sing as loudly as a NF).

Oh and I wish you the best of luck in getting your NF GM DE!!!!

I second the LLBean Boat Tote recommendation if you're open to canvas. I love that you can put it in the washing machine.

For nylon:

1. I love my Le Pliages. I've had the corners repaired on a few of mine and they are good as new. You can wipe them down with baby wipes if you notice them getting dirty.

2. When I need to carry a lot of junk, like blankets and snacks, I carry my big Herve Chapelier (size XL or XXL, I can't remember). It's more durable than the Le Pliage, has more structure, the square base means that its huge, and the wide straps help distribute the weight:

3. I've never tried it, but you might also consider MZ Wallace - lots of moms where I live (NYC) use this as their workhorse: https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mz-wal...y-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=BLACK/ MAGNET

L.L.Bean Boat Tote. Nearly impossible to destroy (my oldest is 15 yo) and can be put in the washer.
I second the sentiment of spending more money on a handbag than a tote.

Another vote for LL Bean for errands/hauling stuff-you can customize the color combos and get them monogrammed, and they last forever. I still have one from elementary school, making it nearly 40 years old. It too has been machine washed and now stores stuff in the car trunk. They are really strong, too-I have carried my groceries, textbooks, laundry, and even my dog in them.

I have handbags and work bags from Vera Bradley to Hermes, but my boat tote is the one I have reached for most often, consistently over the years.

I love the quilted look of the MZ Wallace! But OMG is it huge! I'm only 5' and I know if I filled that up and tried carrying I'd just fall over to that side. [emoji16]

I love Le Pliage, Coach, Cuyana, and Leatherology, and to throw another option in the mix is the bag I am using when I go out with my 4 kids, the Rough and Tumble Farmers Market Tote in large. It's waxed cotton canvas so it takes a beating and keeps it's distressed look, inexpensive, and those side pockets are deep and hold honking big water bottles, a must for kids sporting events. I have used it as a carryon bag. The leather handles are comfy.

The picture is the black version but I also have the brown one in the link.

I have had them all, LV, boat bag, Transport and the winner is..... Tory Burch Gemini Tote! (at least for me) I can't stop carrying mine in pink (girly girl lol). Structured yet will smoosh if needed, holds everything, no worries about putting it on the ground, I have literally used a paper towel with Windex to wipe marks off mine. The Transport just puddled, the LV I worried about, boat bag is awesome but will get wet/dirty. Plus, under $200! If you don't mind a patterned bag you should check it out!

:lol::lol::lol:

Another LOL moment... And I hope you don’t take offense to this, but your comment made me think that I, at almost 6 foot, could carry you, at 5 foot, in that huge bag.:nuts: And then I REALLY started giggling.
