Hi, am considering buying the G-bag in Calf Leather camel color or the yellow one in Laminated Canvas? the leather material is almost double the price of the laminated canvas? which one would you prefer in terms of use, durability and value? if ever, this would be my first bag purchase at Tod's. I mostly have Louis Vuitton bags. Thanks!

Well it's a matter of preference. Are most of your LV, coated canvas? If yes, maybe the leather would be a nice change from the canvas? If you want a bag you can carry in any weather, coated canvas would probably be best. TODS are really well made bags, so either material will hold up well. TODS designs are also very practical with lots of useful pockets.

Let us know what you decide and show us of course!!!
Cheers,

Thanks for your reply, LT bag lady. My LV bags are in Damier Ebony and Black Epi in classic designs. I am actually looking for a brown shade lightweight shoulder bag in leather material and I can't find any in LV so I'm looking at other brands. I am considering the Galliera PM from LV but when I saw the TOD's Gbag in leather material which only costs a little more than Galliera which is canvas, that is when I began thinking of getting the Tod's Gbag instead. But when I inquired from our boutique, I was told that the laminated canvas is more saleable. Do you think the Gbag design is classic or LV Galliera PM would be more classic? is the leather bag heavy? and regarding the coated canvas material, since it's a bit shiny, is it just a trend or will it stay? Thanks a lot for your suggestions coz I really don't have an idea regarding TOD's bags and I want to make the right decision since this would be my first purchase on this brand and I don't buy bags often.

i vote for the G bag in leather - the leather is really good and i think it's more classic than the coated canvas. my only grouse is there is only a button closure, no zip.

by the way, would Tod's be cheaper in the UK or the USA? i haven't been able to find pricelist for Tod's

I just bought the G-Bag after missing out on it in early March. It was sold out within 1 week of launching over here. I managed to get mine when the store re-ordered and the stock arrived today.

I so love this bag as it is super light with the coated canvas and it is also very roomy. So far, it seemed pretty ok but will test drive it tomorrow when I bring it out.

Apparently the leather straps are strong enough to withstand the weight of a small laptop, making it a very convenient bag for work too.

Silvercloud, thanks for your post. The blue color is so nice! Would appreciate your feedback after using the G-bag. Are the shoulder straps comfortable? it doesn't slip off?

Regarding the price in US$, from what I saw in the Tod's website, the Grande in coated canvas costs $825; ID#12099925 but I don't really know how many sizes does the G-bag has.

Thank you for sharing Silvercloud! She is beautiful!
I was unable to answer the questions about this bag, because I don't have it, yet :graucho:. Please shed some light for these members considering this bag, tell all you can about this style! :woohoo:
Enjoy!
Cheers,

LT bag lady: Thanks :D It is always a joy to share the thrill of getting a Tod's bag here. You should consider getting it :graucho:

lv_fan: The G-Bag is definitely a great bag to have if you are looking for a casual everyday bag. It is so light! I think it is even lighter than the nylon pashmy. The shoulder straps are fine, they stay put on my shoulders and do not cut/bite into the shoulder (I didn't overload the bag).

The blue is a bit darker than in my picture. The website picture is pretty true to life. There is a smaller G-Bag (not sure if it is called medium or small) which is slightly shorter in height and width. That is probably good if you are not into big bags.

I tried putting a laptop (around 2.2kg, 14inch) in the bag and it seemed overloaded. So maybe it is advisable to only put in a very light and small laptop if necessary.

Overall I am very happy with the bag as it is so slouchy and light. The coated canvas needed a bit of getting used to as it makes a bit of crinkly noise when you have your hand on it. The interior is also canvas so it is quite a low maintenance bag which is great for "throwing" around as it does not need "babying" at all :p Plus the leather straps mean it has that wonderful new leather scent too. Another thing which I need to get used to is the depth of the bag. It can take a while to reach in to get the keys or wallet since it is quite deep for my short arms

Silvercloud, thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding the bag and I am beginning to like the blue color too!

The TODS outlet in Woodbury has some Pashmy Roxy, Luna and d bags at 30% off outlet price. They also have some softys, a good selection of restyled d bags in Spring colors and a couple of Small Mikys!!

Cheers,

As anticipated, during my visit to Italy I could not resist and bought the G-bag, coated canvas in light green. They also had it in yellow, very nice but I wanted something more neutral. I also liked the blue, but I am considering the Tod's new leather tote in that color (maybe during the sales ;)).

Some comments: I agree with silvercloud about the general comments, and I don't have any problem with the depth, since I have long arms. It is a very light bag, which I love and the straps stay on the shoulder. I much prefer canvas to the pashmy fabric (but that is personal taste).

The button closure is very safe, since it closes the bag in a tighter way than a regular button (see photo of the detail). Inside, a thick canvas panel separates the bag in two parts and there is a very deep pocket where you can put your wallet, so you don't have to dig to the bottom.

The hardware is sturdy and perfectly polished. I bought the larger size for 490 Euro (yes, at today's exchange rate roughly $648, cheaper than in the US, sorry...). The smaller size is too small for me but it costs only 450 Euro. The leather one (small) costs 990 Euro (roughly $1300). I also considered buying the G-bag in leather, but I ruled against it, first because the leather is quite sturdy and the canvas one is a lot lighter and lower maintanance and second because I am considering the leather cobalt-blue tote, which is made of softer leater.

Some more photos (I do like this bag a lot :heart::heart:... it's light, low-maintenance and not too expensive, who could ask for more?)

dierregi: Thank you for the pictures. You looked great and I  how the bag falls and slouches on you. I'm glad you posted the prices in Euro too as I was wondering if it would be cheaper to actually purchase in Italy. I bought mine in Singapore and the price difference is not that great. It is SGD 1150 (US$760 or so) for the large and SGD 1080 (or thereabouts ~ US$715) for the smaller size.

This bag is selling like hotcakes in Singapore. The saffron and blue bags were sold out again within 2 days of arriving in the boutiques.
