Just left Amsterdam 3 weeks ago. they did not check. but they were checking middle eastern people. (not racist here. LOL. )
yes they do check.....in france. I just had to show them the products not the box. it is when entering the states. when you have all those box might create a problem in customs. if they pull you. that is why i shipped all the boxes.
Technically detaxe in France requires items to be in original packaging. Sometimes they adhere to this.

Boxes should not cause any issue in US customs at all?! Surely it is normal to have products in their boxes.

Anecdotally only, I haven’t had an issue with detaxe in Paris without boxes the last two times in 2022

I present my bags in their dustbags

Same. For years I have not taken the boxes, I leave them behind in Paris. Received all refunds with no problems.

I did say "sometimes" . Last year, before I moved, I did detaxe on a Kelly and was asked for the box (which I had); the woman behind me (with whom I got into a conversation) was chided for not having her Chanel box - "you know it is supposed to be in original packaging". She did get a refund.

My point, to the poster to whom I was responding, was more that it is never an issue at US customs to bring your boxes.

I agree with the recent commentary that the detax have not looked for the boxes. I have had the guard pull out a magnify glass to validate the serial number on my VCA earring with the receipt. I was not happy because the item I bought was sensitive to scratches, and he was not treating them with care.

If I don't want my boxes. Does CDG Paris customs want to see "original" packaging?

I haven't had any issues with not having items in boxes. They have been more interested in seeing the actual items at issue.
TECHNICALLY, as I noted already this is a technicality - the EU tax refund specifies that items be new and in original packaging.

There are a ton of detaxe threads across the forum and most people have been fine with bags, etc. in their dustbags or unpackaged - however you will also see instances of people who were refused.
In my personal experience I have been gently rebuked once for not having items in their boxes.
Other detaxe issues would be OT.

I am thinking of traveling to France and the planner in me wants to prepare logistically in case the Hermes fairies bless me.

Question for you lovely people with a B35 and B30 (and can easily access the boxes): what sizes, exactly (LxWxH), are the boxes that a B30 and B35 comes in?

I want to make sure luggage/suitcase is ample.

I can understand "planning" very well. However, wouldn't communicating exact measurements here be a bit dangerous as information for all the many great fake sellers?

Maybe you could also take the measurements of your Quota-bag (wasn't it a B 35?)?

In any case, good luck and above all, have fun in beautiful Paris!

No, I don't think so at all. A box is a box, and that's very minor. Besides, there are multiple aspects they would have to perfect anyway (construction, smell, texture, logo, inscriptions, border, "Hermès orange" color, etc.)

I am just asking a simple question on the size of the B30 box.

@jayne236 , happy birthday! Congrats on an iconic bag!

I don’t have the measurements bc I leave the boxes in the store, but post 48 references dimensions of luggage :)
Other posts state that they send boxes and old clothes home etc.

I just returned from Paris and I travel with a Tumi Extended Trip expandable. It is Huge, 31”x21”x12”. I am slowly unpacking and also packing my travel B35 away. I took pictures of B35 and B30 boxes and a shoe box with 13” Mac Book inside my open Tumi bag. I do not recommend packing a B35 or B30 box or even shoebox in your checked luggage. The B30 has the MacBook on it. If you need or want your boxes, ship them home separately and hand carry your Hermes purchases. Never check a Birkin in checked luggage, plus you must have them on hand for customs inspection.
