Time-tested: best and worse luxury bag after long usage/test period - what are yours and why?

Best: I haven't used it lately (been in a GHW / BHW rut) but my black Jypsiere 28. If I can only bring one bag for travel, this is usually the go-to. Really sturdy, comfortable to carry, secure, UTR, looks great, fine in the rain (Clemence/Swift). Also converts easily to dressier option by taking off the crossbody strap and replacing with a twilly.

A tie for close second are either of my Peter Nitz bags - PJ and Dream 30. Both excellent leathers and craftsmanship. And my Moynats (both pre-Ramesh and post-Knightly) continue to hold up well and make me happy to carry.

Worst: For long use "fails" that's harder because as soon as I get fatally tired of a bag or it proves uncomfortable or unfriendly, I just give up and rehome it. I was a Chanel collector for a while (WOCs and Reissues, plus a few seasonal styles thrown in). The WOCs proved too small for an extra pair of sunnies or readers and the larger bags were just painful with the chain on my shoulder. So not for me anymore, but I still admire them in the wild.

Best: LV Trevi PM and V Tote MM. Gucci Blondie. Prada Vitello Daino large tote. These are all bags that are at least several years old and/or used regularly. I have some other bags that look set to make the list in a few more years; they're still too new to call them "time-tested". (examples: LV Alma PM Malletage and Bulgari Roma). My Polene Numero Un in navy has held up quite well, but I suspect it doesn't count as a "luxury" brand.

Fails: Ferragamo backpack and Ferragamo bags in general. I like the bag styles very much but their zippers are terrible. They stick, are rough, really not up to the standard I expect from a premium designer. A few years ago, my husband was considering a Ferragamo messenger bag. The zipper was stiff and rough, with zipper "teeth" edges so sharp that they actually cut his fingers. His hand was still bleeding when we left the store (he bought an LV bag instead). I do have one Ferragamo bag with a better quality zipper -- however, I got that one at the Foxtown discount designer mall. Hmmm...

I have a Ferragamo wallet I bought a few years ago. The zipper is great. I wonder if this is something they've corrected or they use different suppliers for zippers in slgs.

I have three Ferragamo wallets and no problems with them. The small bag and the backpack with the poor quality zippers were bought within the past year. And older bag has a slightly better zipper but it's still a little rough and does not work smoothly

Best for durability would be the Hermes Evelyne in Clemence. I haven't stopped wearing it since 2019. I use a Loewe zipped pouch inside the main compartment. I don't even think about the weather before going out.

There are no worst, but I do wish the Bal Le City (2024) would have more robust hardware. I wouldn't want to 'overload' the bag when carrying by the strap.
This is good to know. Just to clarify, you'd wear your Evie out in the rain, proper rain not just a shower?
