Time-tested: best and worse luxury bag after long usage/test period - what are yours and why?

Here's my guess. Please let me know if I'm wrong: feutre is French for felt. Tpm stands for Très Petit Modèle, which means really small model. I think she is referring to a Hermes Evelyne.

Thank you @whateve

Exactly as above, @Sparkletastic

Smaller than a box of cookies, but stuffable

It’s so funny how we have so much short hand on this forum to refer to bags. We have a whole purse language with different brand and model dialects. :roflmfao:

That being said, it seems like people really love the Evelyne. I’ve always wondered if it would work for me for casual wear. But I’ve struggled so much with hobos that I’ve been scared off from trying.

I’ve worn the Evelyn in all its incarnations: size 16; 29; 33. DH wears the Evelyn sellier 33, a smooth, structured Evelyn, a very different vibe. It’s north south and things fall to the bottom which is why I prefer the smallest.

I also own a tpm in pebbled leather that I don’t wear as much. I’ve owned a few larger Clemence pebbled leather ones which are extremely rugged and can go through water, but the top is not zipped so it’s partially open. The larger sizes in leather tend to slouch. Canvas leather and other combinations are a bit more rigid

Here is the sellier 33. DH also had black which is pretty durable; he is more careful of the gold , which shows the detail of the bag a bit better.

However, his favorite, durable travel bag is the sac a depeches 21, which is a high crossbody; very comfortable; stays in position, with both interior and exterior pockets. After a few years of solid non stop use, it’s pretty much the same as it ever was

ETA: I don’t really have a worst bag. Even lambskin Chanel bags and metallic ones ( that tpfers seemed to complain about the most) seemed to weather regular use pretty well. The Valextra tric trac never seemed secure to me, but it’s not like I had an actual security issue with it. My lady Dior medium is pretty heavy empty. That’s about it. Honorable mention to BV by Tomas Maier. Gorgeous, sturdy, strong, light bags that hold a lot- that just don’t seem to be my style

Can I just say that I think it's so cool your DH is into man bags. I think a man that would carry a bag would be a dream come true for me! He looks very stylish, just like you

Thank you so much

He actually is into clothes and stuff (and fancy shoes) more than I am lol. I started shopping premier designer bc he dragged me in… it was too scary otherwise

My best bag is Hermes Sac en V in fjord leather. Sadly this style is no longer in production. It fits my daily essentials and is durable and rain proof. It looks virtually the same over 10 years of use.

I would highly recommend Hermes bags made with fjord leather. They do pop up occasionally in the resale market.

I don't have a worst bag.

Best for durability would be the Hermes Evelyne in Clemence. I haven't stopped wearing it since 2019. I use a Loewe zipped pouch inside the main compartment. I don't even think about the weather before going out.

There are no worst, but I do wish the Bal Le City (2024) would have more robust hardware. I wouldn't want to 'overload' the bag when carrying by the strap.

My favourite ever is my Saint Laurent baby Niki (crinkled leather). Sturdy , elegant, exactly the right size for my needs. Also own the medium size but don’t like it so much. Maybe I’ll sell the medium to buy a second baby Niki if I can find a good pre loved deal…

OMG, I could have written this post!!! I dont have many bags because YSL baby niki is my absolute favorite one, it is functional, holds heaps, has external pocket that fits my big mamma iPhone, durable AND looks great. Same as you, also got the medium size but never worn it, just sits on a shelf, being jealous that only baby size gets to get out :)

Yes baby Niki is perfect! I use it mostly with a bag insert but if I take the insert off my IPad mini can also fit. What colours are yours (baby and medium)?

I have 3 baby niki: black croc imprint was my first one, I’ve had it for about 7-8 years? That one gets to have the most fun. Then a beige one w gold hardware, and last, my hubby got me because i love colour, the fluoro yellow one.
And my medium is the cognac one, as soon as it was re-released about 3 years ago? I should have waited, a year after that the same colour came out in baby size, I should have gotten that one!!!
What about you?

My baby Niki is the classic black crinkled leather and I have (had?) the medium in dark beige but just let it at my local consignment store because the size doesn’t suit me. I’m looking to buy the same colour in baby size as soon as the medium sells 🤗
