Tiffany's =(

have heard lots of stories about Tiffany's SA especially at the Ala Moana boutique being very snobby and downright rude. then i experienced it myself twice on different buying occasions. i may have been buying 'just silver' pieces but they should remember customers are why they have a job in the first place.

switched to the Waikiki boutique and they were much nicer and customer oriented there. one of our friends wrote a letter to the manager about his bad shopping experience looking for an engagement ring but was ignored so it's not surprising that their attitude trickles down from the top on down. sorry you had that experience after your long day at work and wanting to spend some hard earned money to receive attitude like that.

I'm also from Hawaii, and maybe I just haven't been in the store as often as you have, but I'm really shocked that this happened to you.

The first time I went in Tiffany's was when I was 13, with my cousin. We were clearly not there to purchase, but there was a kindly older saleswoman. She humored our questions, showed us different silver pieces, and when we were about to leave, gave us catalogues in little blue bags. At 13, it left a big impression on me, and I couldn't wait until I was old enough to leave with a real purchase.

I'm 20 now. Since then I've been there multiple times, sometimes to purchase, other times just to browse, but I've never been treated rudely by a salesperson there. Granted, I'm from Hilo, so you may have visited the store there more than I have, but I've been there at least 10 times and haven't had any trouble. I have had one slightly rude experience in Seattle, but that's another story.

I'm sorry you've had such a negative experience there. There are some really great SA's out there. But some, quite frankly, should not be in the customer service business at all, let alone working in a store that prides itself on it.

i was treated quite rudely by one SA in Fashion Valley San Diego store. i decided to hold off on the purchase and come back the next morning so a different SA woudl get my commission. other then that i have always encountered friendly helpful staff.

hmm, i honestly don't think they were judging you. i just think they were being lazy haha. i've only been to tiffany a few times but i never experienced anything bad and out of possibly 5 times i went, i only bought once from the store haha.

to me, it always takes two to tango. i am not defending the SAs but there's always another side to every story. actually, depending on how many people were there, there are many sides to every story. from experience, just as there are rude SAs, there are also rude customers.

:)

Makes me think of a story my grandmother told me about my grandfather. He was a farmer his whole life. He went into a car dealership to buy a truck for the farm, he was wearing his farm clothes and no one gave him the time of day, while he had the CASH for the car in his pocket, he left without a car and went elsewhere.

I usually get great service from Tiffany's in Troy, MI. But its always better if: 1) Im with my mother. 2) Wearing one of my BBags. 3) Wearing my open heart pendant. I always remember my mom saying "If you want SA's to give you the time of day in Tiffany's you have to be wearing your Rolex."

Ill chime in on girls saying they get better service with their SO tagging along. Its true, my BF and I went in with my mom last July on vacation in FL, so she could get as Bat mitzvah gift for a family friend's DD, and I was showing him the ring I liked. He looks like a poor college student (which he is), and I still got better service!

I think they do dig for the higher commission, and they will ignore people based on how you're dressed/your age/who your with

It's really sad that people always seem to judge a book by it's cover!!! I remember once when I was a Travel Agent (about 8 yrs ago) and worked on commission this old VERY shabby looking man came into the store now I was the only one who gave him ANY time of day and he booked quite an expensive holiday to spain- to my suprise. Any way the next time he came in (a few days later) one of the other girls jumped on him (I was busy) and he booked A VERY EXPENSIVE world cruise. He was still looking very shabby mind!!!

Today I visited Tiffany's in Melbourne and it was packed out- ques for the SA's, I didn't mind at all because I find it annoying when they watch u and keep trying to help when u are looking. So I spent ages just looking around and picked out heaps of necklaces to try on. When I was asked who's next- It was that busy they wouldn't have had a clue i got a 20 year old called Laura and she was the BEST SA I've ever come across, showed me everything- I had picked out heaps. Once I'd choosen what I wanted today, she wrote down the other items i liked for hubby to look at- hints for anniversary!!! She wrapped it up nicely- no trying to ask if i needed it gift wrapped like the SA in Beverley Hills last month- don't they realise half of the fun is carrying that little bag with the cute wrapping.
She added me to the mail list and was just soooo nice- I LOVED my experience in Tiffany's Melbourne- and LAURA in Melbourne Collins Street I hope this message get's back to u from someone reading this!

Laura did mention that they DON'T get commision in Melbourne Tiffany's- has anyone else heard of this before???? Or was she just saying that- I asked her because I wanted to know that if hubby came back to get me something and gave her name that she'd get the commision, cause she'd done the ground work- so to speak.

I just came back from Tiffany's at South Coast Plaza straight from work. So basically, I'm in scrubs, hair up, glasses on. Well I was interested in getting a cute ring just to wear. I was looking at a plain band ring, but it ended up being to be too thick for me. So I went around searching, found this cute little heart ring.

I'm standing at the counter waiting for an SA to help me. Right before I got there an SA asked these 2 other females if they needed help, then I came along. She walked away to the register, stood there knowing I was there. Another SA walked to her and they just started chatting. One of the SAs were even faced towards me. I was getting REALLY upset because this isn't the first time. I mean, I had my Chanel purse with me, also a Chanel shopping bag from a wallet purchase. I waited for about 5 minutes. Then I just went over to the other SA who helped me right away to assist me. So then we walked back to the other counter, and those nasty SAs were looking at me with a face, 'opps we didn't help her, now she ran to someone else. ' Gah!! It makes me so angry. Who are THEY to judge me. I'm just so sick of these rude SAs. I mean they just lost a sale from me. It just ruins my experience when I have to stand there waiting, especially when they are 4 feet away from me.

Sorry for the long post, but I just had to rant.

Hey there Sweetie, sorry to hear about the snobby sales assistants. My girlfriends horrible sister used to work for Tiffany's, and she was such a snob she got fired(it affected her sales!), so hopefully that's what will happen to these two!!!
xx

When I go over to the US in three weeks I'm totally prepared for crap service from Tiffanys, I will look like a tourist, I'm young, not particularly fashionable at all, and I won't be buying a whole lot. But I still hope to get served despite this..

I usually get good customer service at Tiffany's, but I also say hello to the SAs first... it lets them know that I am not sheepishly looking around. I'm in there for a reason: cleaning/repair or buying a gift. I have a ton of silver jewelry that I've gotten as gifts that I never wear, so I don't really go in to browse so much.

I work in retail and I will say, each customer has their own set of insecurities and issues. You can't please everyone and that's why store managers try to hire a balanced sales team. I know my personality is extremely helpful/chatty while my co-worker will just wait for someone to approach him... some client I've never worked with before might think I come on too strong or that he ignores/judges them. It's easier with regular customers to learn their preferences and adapt...

It's stupid to judge people on appearance like that. Some of the rich people I know don't display it, they routinely look downright shabby. Also, I'm the one who's handing over money, I shouldn't have to dress up to please the SA (I always dress nice anyway but ykwim)!

usually they are not too friendly
on the other hand I recently went to Toronto (on Bloor St.) Tiffany's to look at diamond earrings,SA name was Derek I guess and he was very helpful. Although I had my small diamond earrings ,designer bag and my mom had tiffany watch and full diamond ring. but my previous visit to Toronto Tiffany was also pleasant.

We Canadians are just friendly I guess!

haha... usually anyways!:graucho:

The SAs in San Francisco from Tiffany & Co. to Cartier are simply amazing! I always have a great time shopping there.

In Roseville it's a different story. The store just opened and I realize that, but they almost never have anything I want to look at in stock. And when they do they will never change, say, a 16 inch pendant to a 20 inch one for free, or even give me a silk cord for a gold pendant. They wouldn't even take my check, and Manhattan's flagship took one of mine for over a thousand dollars.

Other than that they're great. Melissa and the brunette female manager are my favorites.

The female Natick Collection SAs have never been particularly friendly, last week I walked out of there without buying a key necklace because they first ignored me and then huffed and puffed through my questions. There was a male SA there last year that was really nice.

My impression of Tiffanys CS is that it is a corporate-level problem. It seems like there are so many reports from all over about inconsistent service.

At my Tiffany's (SF) there is one SA who I will always avoid due to rudeness. When I complained about it at the CS dept, they kind of shrugged it off too.

I have had mostly very nice SA's but it feels like they are kind of floundering and trying to do their best without corporate support and training. For example sometimes they don't know what lengths certain neclaces come in, or what bracelet sizes etc. I often know more about what I am looking for based just on reading the website.

It shouldn't be impossible to have consistent service. For example, somehow Nordstrom's always has good service, so I will always choose to go there over another store. I don't need to have my tushie kissed, but I would much rather go in knowing I am not going to be treated rudely or suffer a bad day from a shopping trip.

I have shopped everywhere for silver and honestly, Tiffany's is the best quality I have found, so I will continue to collect pieces, but I sure wish they could get their act together, it would make it so much nicer.

Oh, but I should give a shout out to one guy who is at the "celebration rings" counter. I was looking at them out of the corner of my eye in passing, and he got me to try some on. I honestly told him I was on my way up to the silver and had no intention of diamond shopping that day, but he told me that jewelry is for trying on and having fun with! That was fun I will say...

I think when you're comparing Tiff. SA vs. Nordstrom SA, it's like trying to compare the differences between an apple and a banana. Tiff SA makes much much more than Nordies SA...not trying to start anything here but just pointing something out i thought i'd throw in the pot.

That is exactly my point, if the Tiff SA is making more money, then shouldn't they be trying harder to be nicer? It seems like Nordies has a lot more locations and emplyees yet they seem to be able to maintain quality control, so it should not be impossible to do. I hope this doesn't sound rude... just trying to point out an example of what consistently good CS can be like.
