Tiffany's DBTY VS. Cartier's DLDC

Well actually for the exact same reason lilmountaingirl mentioned, except I do like that it's more 'fragile/subtle'

Thanks Myrkur, that's true, delicate is cute but don't you think it would break? Is it too fragile?

They should have offered you the option of getting the DBTY you wanted transferred to the store for you to look at without having to pay... Ask them and compare both in person before you buy. I prefer Tiffany's in this case.

To be honest LVoeletters, I didn't ask the SA what's their ordering policy I just assumed I would have to pay for it ,silly me :shame:
I will go again and ask them and let's hope they have a nice policy for ordering :cloud9:
Thanks for the enlightenment!

So, I'm planing to get a single stone necklace to wear alone every day or to layer with other every day necklaces. I am torn between Tiffany's Diamond By the Yard and Cartier's DIAMANTS LÉGERS DE CARTIER

any thoughts of which one would be a better choice?
I've read somewhere here that Tiffany's diamonds faces up larger than Cartier's when comparing the same carats, is that true?

and the size, which size would be best for a 40 year old working mom? It has to be something that I can wear for a long time because I have no daughters to pass down to.

I tried Tiffany and Cartier at the boutique. I like Cartier better. Tiffany dbty kept flipping around when just trying and the back edge of the diamond poked me and made me uncomfortable. Cartier's diamond felt heavy and no flipping around problem, plus super comfy around the neck.

I've compared lots of bezels and feel Tiffany crafts the best ones. IMO I like how the Tiffany one makes the diamond the star and how it "floats". Thats the beauty of DBTY. I've got gold and platinum Tiffany necklaces and as dainty as it looks, it's very tough, wouldn't break or anything and I wear that everyday and don't baby them. GL! They r both gorgeous pieces, to each their own!

Thanks cwt84130, yea the poking thing, I heared some complains about the DBTY poking but I thought that the DLCD does the same, got to check that on my next trip to the boutique

Thanks akimoto, thats right Tiffany's craftmanship with the bezels Is no doubt an exemptional one!. On the other hand Cartier's setting has three tiny bezels around the tone that only they can master, and THAT is ecxactly why I'm torn between them. Should I choose the simplicity of DBTY or the uniqueness of DLCD

I prefer Tiffany's - I just think they make the absolute prettiest version of this necklace. Mine is a .42 I think and is just perfect for every day working mom-hood! :) Not flashy but definitely sparkly and THERE. I'd highly recommend this one!!

Thanks surfergirljen, does yours poke you or not? And if it's ok with you can you please show me a modeling picture of that size?

To be perfectly honest, after all of the research I've done...

If I could get the 0.17ct Tiffany DBTY diamond/bezel/loops on the Cartier DLDC chain/clasp -- I would be one PERFECTLY HAPPY Princess! :giggles:

Unfortunately, I don't think that either company is willing to sell components of their pieces, and I don't have the funds to buy both versions and have my jeweler combine them. Likewise, the spare parts would "go to waste"!! I wish I had a friend who wanted the opposite as me (Cartier diamond on a Tiffany chain) and then we'd both be set! Wishful thinking... I believe the rose gold is two different shades, anyway, so a hybrid might look "odd".

Guess I'm going to have to choose... I wish Tiffany & Co. offered a heavier chain! But that would destroy the original design of their DBTY, I suppose.

I know it doesn't seem like it but even though the Tiffany chains are daintier I believe they are still exceptionally strong. I've worn less quality pieces for years while rarely taking them off and never had issues. I think you should be ok with the strength of the Tiffany but if you prefer the look of the chain for Cartier then I am no help becauseI love both looks of these for completely separate reasons.

Sehem, as a 40-year-old working Mom, it is better to go with the biggest diamond you can afford so you don't need to upgrade to a bigger diamond in the future. As we age, we look better with a bigger solitaire. I have just upgraded mine from 1 carat to 1.6 carat. The original one is a Tiffany 4 prong solitaire pendant. The new one is DBTY. Quite frankly, DBTY solitaire bothers me. The culet pokes me all the time. I've had it for a week. I may need to get used to it.

You know... I'm starting to think that my decision would be the Cartier version... IF their bezel wasn't 100% open in the back!

While I love the triple ring on the front of the Cartier bezel, the back of the piece really bothers me for some reason. I wish they'd finished the back and made it look pretty. Then I would purchase it for sure!
