Gorgeous rings everyone! I'm glad to hear the Bond Street store are so accommodating! I've seen some mixed reviews on Tiffany's service but I've never had a problem. We don't live near London so I think we will have to deal with their online services, unless DBF decides to arrange an appointment and we go down there in person.
If it’s possible for you I would really recommend seeing them in person. I think it’s part of the whole experience and from what I’ve heard and my experience from my initial meetings with them is that they treat you like an princess :) not the most important thing but nice to have on such a special day...

Thank you! I’ve taken down a note of these numbers. In terms of importance when it comes to how the diamond looks- what order would you put the four C’s in for you personally if you don’t mind me asking? X
Cut first, then carat size. After that I juggle the colour and clarity to fit my budget, I’m happy with H/I if the cut is great and VS2 or eye clean Si1.

Oh ok, I thought that part of Tiffany’s marketing was that all of the stones were cut to the highest quality and therefore you didn’t have to worry about that when picking a diamond. Isn’t that why they say they sparkle more? Or have I been sucked into the marketing hehe

Imo there diamonds are excellent. From my experience all are beautiful. Tell your sales associate your specs. Your sales associate will work with you.

Wherever you go (Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef, Zales, Macy's, White Flash, Blue Nile, independent jeweler, etc) you will have to share specs and what you want in a ring. Tiffany guarantees there diamonds are at least the 4cs they are graded. So they tend to grade harder than other companies.

I was told that they have 10 people grading their diamonds and if 9 say its an F colour vs1 for example and one says its a G vs2 then they'll grade it as a G vs2, so you will more than likely have a better stone than you think you have. I like to think thats true.

Both of the diamonds you shared in the first post look beautiful on your hand. My personal preference is to choose pretty and sparkle over size. Can you ask for the rings to both be cleaned and compare them again?

Does your fiancé prefer one over the other?

Good luck on your search and congratulations on your engagement!

View attachment 3928285 View attachment 3928286 Hello all,

I was wondering if I could ask for some opinions as I have been searching for engagement rings

I’ve fallen head over heels in love with the Tiffany setting... I know it’s silly and I know I could get more bang for my buck elsewhere but it’s my engagement ring and there’s just something about this ring that makes my heart sing!

Anyway... I took some photos and I was wondering if you could give me some advice on size and specs? Our budget is around £4500 max.

This either means I can go for a minimum specs ring (I VS2) which is 0.5 (second photo) or go up in colour grade and go for a 0.4 (first photo). Honestly do you think the rings seem small on my hands? I am a size 4.5 in Tiffany so I’m quite lucky that the stones look larger than they are on me but I don’t to make a mistake. And would you go for an I grade diamond that cost that much? Do the diamonds above look ‘warm’ to you?

Thanks so much in advance  xx

I'm so so sooo excited for you! Congratulations on your engagement! I think you're choosing the most perfect setting for your engagement ring. I may be biased though, as I have a Tiffany Setting myself!

The first photo you posted (the 0.4ct), is that H in colour? Maybe I'm colour sensitive, but to me the second diamond doesn't have the same brightness compared to the first and it does look slightly warm just IMO. In saying that, the size (0.5ct) looks lovely on your slim fingers. It's so tough, isn't it? Trying to find a happy compromise...

I don't think anyone should advise you on which colour you should choose. I believe its more helpful to share our experiences.
For me, personally, I found the best way was to look at diamonds along the entire colour scale Tiffany & Co offer. Would I be happy with a I colour? How about an H? G? F? and so on.... So I chose my minimum on that. Then, what size diamond can I get for our budget in that colour grade? Then I viewed diamonds within those parameters and considered cut, clarity and plain old visual appeal. And essentially chose my favourite.

As others have said, you should find the one that makes your heart sing. After visiting the NYC store when I got engaged, I contacted my best friend back in Australia and told her all about 'the most beautiful ring in the world'. I had spotted it straight away after I told my SA our colour and size parameters (which were within about 0.4cts). Obviously the flagship store has some of the most beautiful rings and we were also able to have some rings sent in from across in country in only a day, so over the following days I was able to try on rings which were larger and had better colour & clarity and certainly a cut more in line with ame's ideals or the HCA scale... but honestly, this is the ring I instantly had my heart set on and I'll be happy with for life. I've been engaged for several months now and I still get a thrill every time I look down at my ring.

So my advice: You'll know when you find the one!

Can't wait to see the one you and your FI have decided on!

In addition: yes, it's super tempting to go with a larger sized replica. We could get almost 2cts (excellent cut, same colour and clarity) for the price we paid for ours! I knew that for me though, only a Tiffany would do, so we have no regrets whatsoever. If your FI is anything like mine, they just want us to be happy with the ring. Go with your heart on this decision!:heart:

Another thought! This is probably very minor, but if you decide to go with a diamond wedding band- be aware that Tiffany & Co. use G, H & sometimes F colour of diamonds in these, so it may be possible your centre stone might look warm next to your wedding band if you decide to go with an I.

Thank you so much for the long reply! It is tough, it's totally depends who you talk to because my family think I'm nuts for going with tiffany as they keep telling me- you can find the exact same thing in Hatton garden! But I don't think you can... it just doesn't seem the same. The thought of buying a replica gives me a similar feeling to when I almost purchased a fake designer bag when I was in Thailand haha! I think if I was going to go non Tiffany it would have to be with the mindset of not trying to copy them!

I think when it comes down to a it I'll probably just go with the one that I like best in person because really once this obsession calms down (and I am obsessed!) I probably won't even remember the specs. Which wedding band are you going for/have you gone for? I was completely convinced I wanted a plain band but now everyone saying the channel looks good has got me thinking about the half circle 2mm channel from Tiffanys... :)

To me, smaller carat solitaires always look like something is missing even if sparkly and good specs. I am not an over the top bling person, and like clean lines over swirls and multiple halos, but this style with a small stone just calls to attention how tiny the stone is. You will get major shrinkage after having it a few years and will want to upgrade.

The best look is the channel set band for sure - the e ring needs that. Something to consider about this setting: I have the knife edge band in platinum that I wear as a spacer with my upgraded set or plain when I can't wear diamonds (it was my original plain wedding band) and I don't find it comfortable for everyday wear. The band irritates the fingers on either side.
