I was wondering if I could ask for some opinions as I have been searching for engagement rings :)

I’ve fallen head over heels in love with the Tiffany setting... I know it’s silly and I know I could get more bang for my buck elsewhere but it’s my engagement ring and there’s just something about this ring that makes my heart sing!

Anyway... I took some photos and I was wondering if you could give me some advice on size and specs? Our budget is around £4500 max.

This either means I can go for a minimum specs ring (I VS2) which is 0.5 (second photo) or go up in colour grade and go for a 0.4 (first photo). Honestly do you think the rings seem small on my hands? I am a size 4.5 in Tiffany so I’m quite lucky that the stones look larger than they are on me but I don’t to make a mistake. And would you go for an I grade diamond that cost that much? Do the diamonds above look ‘warm’ to you?

Thanks so much in advance :) xx
The ring looks gorgeous on you! I don't think the size looks small since your fingers are small as well.

I went through this same frustration last year. I was colour sensitive so I could see the difference between I and F coloured stones however most people can't so it really depends if you can.

Did you ask your sales associate about financing? Tiffanys Canada offered 0% 13 month financing, so that's one way we were able to stretch the budget.

I flipping love my Tiffany engagement ring! Mine is the Harmony setting as I preferred the low profile setting for the diamond. I have a 0.38 stone which is small, but to me its perfect, G colour, Vs2. I've had it for nearly 5 years and I look at it at least a hundred times a day still, and every time it gives me pleasure. It just sparkles and looks so pretty. i could have gotten a 1ct diamond from a local jewellers for about thousand more than we paid for my ring but the diamonds I looked at just didn't give me that wow factor, and I decided sparkle was what I wanted. So thats what we went for. I love it more and more everyday. So I say get what you love and if it makes you happy who cares if its on the small side!
Also on a different note, we had a fabulous time shopping at the Bond street Tiffany, 2 glasses of champagne and fabulous service.

Your ring is stunning! Would you mind if I asked what colour yours is? It's the perfect size on you  I think I'm leaning towards the larger stone but I'm still a little worried that over time I'll regret it knowing full well I could get a better stone for the same price elsewhere. It's a lot of money and quite daunting!

Thank you! Mine is an H in color. I definitely understand how it can be difficult in knowing whether or not you’re making the right decision. In a way, I was lucky that my fiancé held the burden of the decision-making. After we had determined which style and carat range I liked best, he made his pick by balancing his preferred C’s (cut, most importantly!) with his budget. He knew he wanted to purchase my ring from Tiffany because of sentimental value (we have quite a few milestones marked with Tiffany!), and the wonderful customer service he had always received.

FI said that while the specs were important to him, when it came down to the decision, it was one he really made with his eyes and heart (he’s such a romantic, it’s very sweet). So keep in mind that numbers and gradings are only part of the story—take into consideration what you see!

When it comes to Tiffany, you’re always going to pay a markup because of the brand, so no matter what, there’s always the significant possibility that you could buy a larger diamond with higher specs for the same (or lower) price. You can also find near-replica settings at a fraction of the cost (although from what I’ve seen, nothing beats the original. Other Tiffany-style settings seem to have prongs that swallow smaller stones, whereas with Tiffany, each setting is made specifically to fit the dimensions of the diamond). If you love Tiffany and the original Tiffany setting makes your heart sing like you mentioned in your original post, I would go with Tiffany. If, however, you aren’t as attached to the brand and find yourself wanting a larger carat size and higher color diamond, it might be best to look at other options where you won’t have to deal with brand markup.

Agree, love mine, it is Tiffany Soleste, color H, VS2. Wedding band is Tiffany too (Tiffany Embrace 3.7mm band ring), color G, VVS1-VVS2.

Stay with a Tiffany. It’s the reference. Tiffany is often copied but never truly replicated. And for a reason... classic, pure sparkle. I have seen large non-Tiffany diamonds that do not sparkle. Large dull no Brand diamonds are a dime a dozen.

As for size, don’t go lower than a H. If you can’t see the warmth now, you will in the future as your eyes mature to looking at diamonds. Also, as you purchase other diamonds in the future, those will will make your I ring look more yellow.

Congratulations to you and great choice on a Tiffany!

Gorgeous rings everyone! I'm glad to hear the Bond Street store are so accommodating! I've seen some mixed reviews on Tiffany's service but I've never had a problem. We don't live near London so I think we will have to deal with their online services, unless DBF decides to arrange an appointment and we go down there in person.

Well, I get the draw of the brand name! You could, however, have this substantial, top cut, 0.83ct for around the same price, in a platinum, 6 prong setting, (I’ve accounted for VAT etc). There’s also a great upgrade policy so if you decide to go bigger in future, you can!

I was also going to suggest WF and Brian Gavin. I also get that you want the brand name but you will get a better quality diamond for your $ and you can get very similar settings with the other 2 vendors. Also, I learned about the numbers behind the diamonds from Ame on this board. Search secret sauce and you will see what the numbers are that she recommends. I would get a cert diamond so you can upgrade in the future.

Congratulations on your engagement! Great news!
This is a tricky one.
I think the I colour will only be noticeable if you place it next to a D/E colour diamond. I cant see the warm tinge on an I diamond unless they are placed next to something of better colour.
So it also might depend on which type of wedding band you go for. If you go for a diamond band it might show up, but if you go for a plain band it is less likely too.
Both are lovely, and both look great on you. No matter which you decide you cant go wrong :)

Good luck and enjoy!

Congratulations on your future engagement! The Tiffany Setting is a beautiful choice and looks great in your hand. However if you are feeling concerned about the size I would continue to look around to make sure you are happy with it. Have you been to other vendors just to get an idea of stone size you can get from somewhere else first?

When I was looking to get engaged hubby told me a budget and my minimum specs included color and size first. When I bought my ring at Tiffany they offered some SI1 stones. They still do. I went down in clarity at Tiffany's to get the color and size I wanted.
Thank you :) I have spent a lot of time researching various options in Hatton Garden and I just can't seem to find a comparison. I think it's the setting rather than the stones, although I do like the fact that I can trust the cut in Tiffany and not have to worry about it. Am I right that I can go for the lowest clarity in Tiffany and it will still be eye clean no matter what?

I'm not a diamond expert but I will add a different perspective.

I spent weeks deciding on an engagement ring, much to my now husband's frustration. But when I found it I knew it was the one. As you've not had that moment yet, I suspect neither of these rings are the perfect one for you.

And congratulations on your engagement.
Thank you! The rings very much felt 'right', I think I'm pretty much set on this setting, it's just very scary knowing that it's costing this much and I want to get it right in terms of specs
