Thoughts on Coach's Fall bags

I actually like A LOT of the bags! I love the edgy quality they all seem to have. Remember that we're seeing the most inspired pieces of the collection, and like they always do, they will probably backfill the rest of the line with the more classic pieces.
I like the bag in your avatar! I think with every collection, there will be ones to like and dislike. I like smooshy leather, crossbody bags so a few of these styles fit the bill for me. Embellished anything doesn't work for me so that borough is out.

My mom bought me my first Coach bags when I was in high school - mid 90s. She and I each had respectable collections. We both moved away from Coach as they transitioned into loud prints and oversized hardware. Recently, as they began making more bags that matched the classy, understated elegance and clean lines of their classic collections, we both came back.

There is none of that here. These fall bags feel trendy and, IMO, look inexpensive. If for some reason I wanted a bag in this vein I would go to Target/Marshalls/TJ Maxx and get one for < $50 and wouldn't feel guilty for tiring of it after a week.

After adding 7 Coach bags in the last year or so, it's time to start shopping other brands .

I have been in love with the classic styles of the Borough Bag and the mini Riley since they came out and happily came back to buying Coach bags again after years of running from the logo bags that were everywhere. I too just looked at the Fall Preview for 2014 and I was hard pressed to find a bag that I would open my Zippy wallet for. Some looked like they were trying to be Rebecca Minkoff MAB's but not as nice looking. I really thought that Coach finally "got it " with the recent line of classic lovely looking bags that can take you from day to night looking stunning and the consumers response to it......I guess not. Hopefully this is a small sampling of their new line. Sadly enough I was so inspired by the Boroughs that I recently bought some of Coach's stock too, so much for that move :nogood:

It makes me feel less guilty for buying a bag with the current PCE. Once the new collection comes out, it might be a long time before I'll want another new Coach, unless I find an older style at the outlet.

There are a few elements about these bags I like, but the bags themselves look overworked. Way too many ideas crammed into one bag.

I'm excited, too! I love the edge of some of the bags and I'm eager to see the versions that actually make it to the stores. I'll probably only be able to by one bag from this line, so I'll have to chose carefully!

I like some of the colors, but none of the styles are appealing to me. I'm hopeful that there will be other options other that what is shown.

I would really like an embellished wallet! Kinda like the studded wallets from the Kristin line. Love those!

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I love several of these bags. I'm already socking away pennies for this beauty:

But then again I'm 22 so I suppose I'm part of the demographic they're trying to reach?

I'm thinking they are shooting for a younger look with some of these bags. Some, however, look like they were brought back from the 70's. Lol. The fringe got me.

I've been trying to formulate a response for this, and the main problem that I have is that I don't think about the Fall line. I mean literally; I don't think about it or look forward to it or anything. I don't like what I've seen so far, so that is a thought, but after that initial reaction, I haven't even given the designs a second look, really. Just too not me to even consider. I guess I will give them another look when they hit the website, but at this point, I don't have any money left to spend, and I expect these new bags to be priced beyond my wallet's limits anyway. I, too, have enjoyed the classic lines and sophisticated bags (too much! lol!), and luckily, I have all the bags that I loved, so I'm good there. It's probably a good thing that I'm not thinking about the new line! :D

The only one I remotely "go for" is the embellished Phoebe, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be past my comfortable price point. A couple, or even more than a couple are downright ugly and kind of look like someone threw up a bunch of materials and design"elements."

I typed elsewhere that it makes me laugh that the current version of Bororough has been marketed as streamlined and classy and they have"barfed" bling all over her. I don't see this fall collection commanding the high top dollar Coach says they want. But what do I know? I'm not the young, fashion forward customer. But I do have eyes to see and, I think some measure of taste.
Great comment

Whoa, those are BAD. As a brand that really really wants to compete with the high-end designers, um, hello, this is not the way to do it. That black bag w/ the attached red stones? Ugh. Terrible. Prada wouldn't release a bag like that...so why do you think that you can, Coach, and compete with the high-end designers like you're saying you want to? Makes NO sense.

There's not a single bag in that blog post that I would even consider. That's a problem.

Actually, I kind of wonder if Prada was the inspiration for that one (4th in slideshow):

and Fall 2013 line is still out there:

And I can think of a bunch of other high-end designers that release out there designs as well (Fendi, Miu Miu, Versace, Valentino, Moschino, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, and Marni to name a few). I don't think this will be the best way for Coach to compete with them, but every line has those bags that only appeal to a limited amount of people.
