For those that have received black caviar WOCs recently, how would you describe the caviar? I know caviar varies a lot by season, and we all have different preferences for caviar. My most recent addition (black caviar WOC with silver hardware) seems to have a slightly more matte caviar (almost looks like a very dark gray in some lighting), quilts are a little flat, and leather has a slightly plasticky feel to it. Is this how yours is too? Debating whether to keep mine, or try and exchange for another if other recent black caviar WOCs have a different type of caviar and feel to them. I haven’t purchased a woc lately, but based on your description alone , I would return it. If it feels plasticky and bothers you now, it will bother you later also. I used to have a black caviar woc with ghw and I loved it. The quilts were puffy and the caviar was shiny. (I examined a few in the boutique before purchasing in London. )I understand that sometimes it’s a batch thing, but your preferences matter more than what is “normal” for a particular season.
Thank you! Plasticky may have been the wrong word. More like dry and matte. I guess I was just thinking it might feel more moist (for lack of a better word) and look more shiny.
I got one recently, and the advice people on here gave me was to try Neiman’s or Sak’s. Also keep an eye on the Chanel Stock thread. That’s how I was able to get one, thanks to our Chanel queen @nat74 !
I don’t like the dry matte look and flat quilts bother me. I have some slgs and a red woc in the caviar leather that you are describing in which the smaller pebbles which have a sheen to them. I also prefer this type of caviar leather as it appears more luxe, but it’s less typical in the classic black caviar woc style. I still say if anything about the leather bothers you now, it will bother you later. If there’s any doubt, I would return it. These prices are too ludicrous to settle.
Thank you. This is very helpful! I think this is what I was trying to figure out. I have other seasonal caviar leathers that have a smaller grain and feel very luxurious, with the trade-off being that it’s also likely more delicate. This is my first “classic” black caviar item, so I didn’t know if they’re all like this or if this is a one-off. Definitely feels more durable than my seasonal caviar items, so maybe that’s the trade-off?

Thanks! I was debating posting a picture because it’s actually quite beautiful and photographs nicely. The difference is more in the feel, feels a little on the dryer side, and looks slightly more matte than my black caviar mini. I am not an expert with caviars but I think I know what you mean. I am guessing that what is causing the "matte" feel in yours is that the grains of your caviar is more "embossed" than mine. Mine is more flat I think but the quilts of yours is puffier.

Okay, update…I actually really love this WOC! Definitely a keeper! I think I was second guessing myself because I haven’t been able to “shop around” in stores, so I wanted to make sure I had “the best one available.” I wanted this to be an everyday, casual, durable, and travel bag, and I think this type of “rougher” caviar fits the bill perfectly. Thank you all for your thoughts and pictures (I looked through tons of pages on this thread). I’m a happy camper! =)
Now, anyone have any intel on whether the square WOC with the back pocket might be coming back in a future season? Haha, the wishlist never ends…
