The first two are easily checked for when inspecting a bag before you buy it, so I'm only really concerned about the peeling/cracking. Is there much chance a bag would look perfect on purchase but develop this problem in a matter of weeks? Is this problem common, or was it rare, and it was just talked about so much that it seemed like it happened a lot?
I am planning to pick up a Speedy B DE on a trip next month, but am very concerned about the hassle I'd have to go through to return/exchange/repair a bag when I have to deal with a store in another province (no LV near me, and I'm in Canada so I have to order from a store instead of LV.com). I'm even considering buying a different bag, even though I am so infatuated with this one, just so I won't have to deal with the stress of it all!

I felt the same before getting my Speedy B in DE. I have a zipper gap on one side, but it doesn't bother me as it does not affect the functionality of the bag and i never notice it since I tend to keep my zipper pulls on the sides. I've used my speedy every day since November (in rain, sleet, and snow) and have not experienced any issues with peeling/ cracking. So far so good
