Agree. I have never regretted going larger

I am not tall and medium build. For my build, I find 8.5 to be a bit small. I think it’s relative. For someone more petite, or younger or who likes dainty jewelry (I am 55 and prefer larger pieces) they might be fine. Pics would help, as luster and color also play a part. Found a champagne set of pearls from family. I was thinking about something larger and more vividly colored, but the price is right in this case. At least for now

For a size comparison, in the third pic, the single pearl earring at the bottom of the pic is 11.6 mm

ETA: @caruava , thank you for your kind compliment below. I have to confess that for years I only wore large tahitian bc I felt white rounds were too classic and most of my jewelry was white gold or platinum. But, since I’ve switched to gold jewelry, I’ve become open to new things. Here is an older pic of my mixed tonal tahitian necklace (I think 10-15 mm) and a doubled strand of inexpensive freshwater. The tonal Tahitians bought in the Muslim markets in the Philippines in 1991 were a relative bargain for about 2500 USD (my memory is failing me, but I think that was about right). I imagine that the fresh waters were under 100USD. My godmother had a special shopkeeper and was able to cherry pick the best (in her opinion) from a variety of strands. And a white baroque strand from Etsy for about 500 USD in 2019 to give a sense of the lower price range and larger irregular size. Of course these don’t have the luster or higher grade of the more expensive pearls, but I bought them as fun pieces.

You have such a beautiful jewelry collection and a keen eye for styling. Thanks for posting these gems.

@880 just saw your additions to the post. Wow! We can only dream of prices like that back then. I still love that champagne strand with the diamonds the most. Absolutely timeless.

Thank you. I was immediately drawn to the shape of those keshis that I bought them over a larger pairs that were available.

Hi everyone,

I am browsing this Thread for much needed inspiration. I am just not a jewellery girl (yet)

So. I am kind of in Love with a Pair of Van Cleef & Arples Earrings, after seeing them on a Lady:

Now the Dilemma: I love the Look, but I don’t like that the smaller sized Parts are on the ear while the bigger size parts are dangling. I just can’t get over it. It seems just wrong.

Do you have any Idea, where I could search for a Design that has the Pearl and the yellow gold and the chandelier look?
Thanks in advance.

Although I don't wear pearls much I had a fabulous time learning about and picking out Tahitians on holiday in French Polynesia. Was only thinking of coming home with a pair of earrings or a ring but DH spoilt me with a strand I will always treasure. Some pics from Robert Wan and other stores in Papeete, Vaitape, The Intercontinental Tahiti and the St Regis Bora Bora. Those Aubergine pearls are priced at €83k and then there are fun pearls on cords we bought as presents for family. At one store they poured out sacks of pearls for me to choose from. It was an amazing part of the trip and I have learnt so much and come away with a beautiful souvenir (or two).

While I love all pearls as they are my birthstone, I think I love Tahitians the best. They will take on whatever color you are wearing. In fact, I have convinced several family members & friends to love Tahitians. I've given my SIL her first Tahitians as well as my sister. Both now love them & want more. While my mother still loves Mikimoto Akoyas, she does enjoy wearing the Tahitian enhancer i gave her on one of the Mikimoto Akoya strand my father brought back from Japan when he was in the Navy. She says every woman should have at least 1 strand of pearls in her jewelry wardrobe. My BFF wears the Tahitian tin cup necklace I gave her all the time & is planning on getting earrings to wear as well. Pearls are addictive, especially T's.

I agree. Most of the pearls in the family are with my sister who wears them well. She has a set of huge South Sea Golden pearls- necklace, earrings and ring and some Akoyas. My Mum's double strand wedding pearls have also been gifted to her. I prefer vintage so I have brooches and bracelets from my Mum's much younger days. My own prior purchases are just a pair of Akoya AA Pearl studs and a Grey Tahitian ring by Cartier. Really love your pieces!
