Chamilia is coming out with a box chain bracelet, to have a more unisex appeal. Cool that dudes are getting into it! I may have to change the way I address the forum, which is usually "hello ladies.."

Regarding the addictive nature of Pandora- I've been giving this some thought. This is all speculation of course, but here are my thoughts:
-
  • The collectible nature implies that you always need more. My fiancé calls himself a "completist" and this is why if he has one particular season on a TV show in DVD, he must have them all!
    - collectibility is heightened when things are limited edition, country-specific, and retired. If it could go away at anytime, I must get it now!!
    - with retirement, perceived (or real) value increases. We see our purchases as not indulgences, but investments.
    - of course the personalized nostalgic totems that we can carry with us. Romanticizing our "transitional objects" if you will is inherently appealing.
    - positive reinforcement. We are cotinually reinforced with purchases (quarter annual promotions) and wearing (comments, compliments), even if subtly, we are very susceptible to positive renforcement!
    - giftability. This kind of goes with the nostalgia point, but how cool is it to keep loved ones' gifts with you at all times?
    - its unending. SOME of us have enough restraint to limit to one bracelet, gifts only, etc., but without self-imposed restrictions, your collection can never really be complete! New items are always coming out and even having duplicates is awesome for symmetry!

Sorry if I nerded out for a minute, but I'm a behavioral therapist by trade and am fascinated by the concept of addiction as it relates to charm bracelets!!

Any other ideas?
Does just like looking at them count as a reason as well? My bracelets make me feel good (endorphins?) Someone on the forum in the Coach threads said they put their purses on top of the armoire so they can keep looking at them. It's safer than some addictions I guess, but may not necessarily be cheaper, though. My husband is eternally grateful to Pandora because he can never buy me an unwanted gift.

I love this. So true! We talked about creating art, but what about viewing the art! Excellent point about the endorphins, I totally feel this, along with a comforted feeling :smile1:

I also totally second your point about not being able to receive a bad gift! You can tell people what you want, and still be totally excited and surprised :)

Going to pandora today to get two clips for my new bracelet and I think the wise owl charm!! I'm very excited!

I also have set myself a goal of loosing ten more pounds (I already lost 40 this summer) and when I loose ten more
I am going to get the "light as a feather cz" charm!

Does anyone have the wise owl? I can't wait to see it in person.

Also, is there any promotions going on? Is the free bracelet if you spend 100$ still happening?

Here is a picture of my current bracelet, the wise owl charm and the clips I want!

Hi Tanya,
To my knowledge there is not a current free bracelet promo at the moment (they usually last 3-4 days, and the most recent was right after Christmas). I believe the next one in the US is in March

And congrats on the weight loss! I love the idea of commemorating with the Light as a Feather charm!

Thank you . I think I was OCD at the time as I had to have all the muranoes the same size?? The sales assistant must have hated me picking the muranoes and comparing each for size. Luckily my hubby and kids knew my taste and it all came out good in the end. I don't know why but I like odd numbers when it comes to muranoes 3 or 5 plus in the same tone of colour think I'm being safe and not been adventurous enough.
Well, I am an avid gardener and I can tell you that odd numbers are always considered the best way to plant; 3 shrubs, 5, 7, 9 daffodils, etc etc. I don't know why but it is more pleasing to the eye.

I've never seen/ heard of the camel charm before - I haven't explored the animal collection really. What I'm looking for is a specifically designed by Pandora for the region charm... There are so many charms to which I can attribute personal meaning I want it to already represent what I'm looking for. For example with the camel charm, I rode camels in Israel back in 2004 and I'm not sure I will get to do that in Dubai bc my husband is not too fond of the idea.

I know specific to "region"/"location" charms exist - I got an Aruba Murano bead when I was there this Thanksgiving. Does anyone else have /seen/ heard of these ?

Here is my Aruba charm - it is actually stamped as such

There is no country exclusive for those areas.. The camel was just an idea, maybe when you're there something will jump out at you. Yes, I have seen those engraved muranos, I think concept stores in Hawaii sell ones like that too. :smile1:

Congrats about the weight lost, this summer i just loose about 20 pounds, and i tought that the charm light as a feather is really appropriate, Good luck with the 10 pounds!!!

if anyone have the wise owl i can't wait to see it in your bracelet, and i'm also curious about the peacock

What site is that on sale for 10 pounds. How do I get the pound symbol on my keyboard?
Me avid gardener too having the garden and maintaining it so it looks aesthetically pleasing is important I have to have it harmonious tranquil and more a retreat. So maybe having odd numbers as you mentioned was the method to my madness and it has spilled over to the designs on my bracelet.this perfectionism I have is a pain. As I also on the other hand i like imperfections as it has uniqueness and is somewhat special. I am forever balancing things out???? Back to reality the bird dangle was on sale on the jewel hut and argento website though I guess it will b sold out. But will also mean it will b retired. I'm using a iPad so has ££££ signs

Do they sell outside of the UK? I am having a hard time finding some retired charms and I resorted to buying a couple on eBay and I think I ended up with fakes, so I don't want to do that anymore. There are some US websites that may ship internationally but I know Pandora is very strict about rules. I don't know if some stores sell on eBay or other internet sites to bypass that rule.

The stores near me tell me that Pandora instructs them to return all the retired beads. There is only one or two stores that ignore them and I have picked up some good finds with them. If they ask for them back I wonder what they do with them. There is one store here in Canada called Charm Junction based in BC that ships and they have quite a few retired charms but not the ones I am after.

Yes some of the websites do deliver abroad. I'm not sure which ones but you could have a look: Jewel Hut, John Greed, Acotis, Argento, Jewel First, Unforgettable Moments, Beadazzle, Joshua James.:smile1:

I completely agree with your thoughts. I too find it very interesting and still can't really give a logical explanation on why I'm now so attached to collecting these charms since I'm a guy. I know these bracelets are intended for women and that it's just not normal to see a guy wearing one (lol), but I don't care! Surprisingly enough, where I live they're not that common yet so even though I wear it daily, I haven't actually received any hate on it or on the fact that I'm a male wearing Pandora. In fact, I've received a lot of compliments from both guys and girls!

Some of the reasons why I decided to get a bracelet are, well, because I could; because I love mini-sized everything (the level of detail on the turtle charm is amazing); because there were times during this year where I felt extremely depressed, up to the point that I asked myself if it was still worth living. But then with the help of my few real friends I remembered how blessed and lucky I am, so I got a bracelet with 5 charms with the purpose of reminding me of my achievements and things worth living for. 3 months have passed and now I have a full bracelet (lol this addiction thing you talk about is so true because I was gonna stick to just 3 charms but then I got anxious when I saw complete bracelets and (gotta admit) felt a little competitive so I decided to fill it up. Also because jewelry is a sign of opulence where I live). I've felt a lot happier and comfortable with myself ever since with just staring down at my wrist and looking at those charms which remind me that better times will always come and that we must always be grateful. So I could basically say that these charms were a life saver.

Oh I must add that it gives me a reason to look forward to the future because my ultimate dream is going to Dubai and I thought that getting the camel charm would be nice were I gonna travel there  I'll post a photo of my bracelet as soon as I can

Great story. You mut post a pic of your bracelet.:smile1:
