OMG, thank you so much for sharing this! I hope it is not just pictures of the scarves flat but background stories and I want to see his storage solution!

I can't get past the paywall on my phone.
oh ok. here's the snippet about the storage, and the picture:

"His collection largely resides in a special storage unit. Each scarf is wrapped in a plastic acid-free pouch and placed in groups of eight or 10 into cardboard boxes that are then put into in larger lacquer boxes. “You have to be careful of temperature and humidity,” he said."

Thank you, you are my hero of the day!

I quickly assumed it was a collection of Hermes carré only, but it's not.

“Carré: A Vintage Scarf Collection presents around 6,500 of these scarves, which Emery acquires according to their individual aesthetic merit, not the prestige of the brand that may be printed on them―many pieces remain tantalizingly anonymous, even as others boast the names of renowned fashion houses (Dior, Hermès, Saint Laurent, Lanvin, Balenciaga) and great artists (Picasso, Sonia Delaunay, Victor Vasarely, Enzo Mari).”

I had seen this article as well. It was hard to imagine having that many scarves... How could you remember them all or really fully enjoy them after a certain volume/size of collection?

As an artist and designer, I imagine he collects them for the pure joy of being able to admire them, as well as possibility appreciating having access to them for design inspiration. It also sounds like he enjoys collecting pieces that he feels may otherwise disappear. He notes some are not printed on exceptional materials, nor finished beautifully, but he finds the design itself exceptional, and therefore worth preserving.
