okie, I speak French, but I find this one very hard to "write" down.... so here goes

Notes:
R for a uvular r (roll the hard r in the back of your mouth)
è like the vowel in bed, head, said...etc (sorry, dunno how to use one symbol)
N for nasal

"caw-f mèR-vaye gRaN mau-del"

Ooh I love the idea of a pronunciation guide!! I speak some French, but I am by no means fluent, and there are some words I'd like to know how to pronounce correctly, like

Suhali (is it soo-HAH-lee)?
Damier (do you say dah-mee-AY or dahm-YAY)?

and now that I think of it I have other questions too about Hermes, Tokidoki, Botkier... maybe I should start a general pronunciation guide thread!

I agree with Cec (obviously since you speak French)

caw-fray maeyr-vay

Don't know if that made a difference...but the "caw" is like cough without the "fff" sound and the maeyr...well it kinda sounds like mayor..but not really...and without the O...LOL!

I think there's a pronunciation guide somewhere already with tons of replies, if you do a search you'll find it.

Suhali = I know a lot of people just say su-hali, but in French the H would be silent, so su-ali
Damier = I say Dahm-yay there is a hint of "i" in there but I say the word quick so the "i" kinda just...blends in.

On top of my hand, H, S, T, X, Z are some examples of letters that are generally silent, so I would pronounce Suhali as:

"soo-ah-lee" (primary stress on "lee", secondary stress on "soo")

I also put up a ref. guide for all the suhali bag names here
http://forum.purseblog.com/louis-vu.../suhali-color-and-name-reference-93055-2.html

Damier: "dah-mee-eh" (primary stress on "eh", or you can kinda slur the "mee-eh" together)
I dunno if your "ay" is the same as my "eh"... mine's like: "how are you doing, eh?" lol

Hermès: "èR-mèz" (primary stress on "mèz"; example of when the s is not silent in French) or the anglo version is something like "air-mez"

Botkier: "baw(t)-kee-eh" (primary stress on "eh", or again, slur the "kee-eh" together)
the t is very silent here or you can be lazy like me, I don't pronounce it lol.

Tokidoki: ummm.... I really don't htink it's French.... sounds Japanese to me.... but I'd say "toh-kee-doh-kee":shrugs:

Edit: forgot to add stress... I underlined them

"caw-f mèR-vaye gRaN mau-del"

Thanks Cec, I didn't even know Botkier was French and my guess would have been "Bot-Kee-Er", derrr! Yes I think Tokidoki is Japanese also, I was just adding it to the list of "brand names I don't want to say wrong and sound like an idiot! lol

no problemo.
Ya me too! Botkier just doesn't sound French to me.... but I didn't say anything cuz I don't know anything about this brand, and if it is indeed French, I don't wanna insult anybody...well....looks like I just contradicted myself:sweatdrop: lol

I mentioned somewhere in the middle of that thread (like page 10 which no one would ever read...lol) that about 1/2 of those names are INCORRECT! I would not rely on them and they're very misleading....
I think...if a person is going to try to pronounce something in another language, they should start off on the right track, otherwise it'll make that person look more of a fool.... so in this case, I'd rather just pronounce it the English way

Does anyone else ever feel stupid when you're at an LV boutique and don't know how to pronounce anything? LV is a French company, so I default to trying to pronounce things the French way. Who on earth would ever think "Dentelle" (which I understand to be dahn-TELL in French) is pronounced "dehn-TEEL"? What about "Multicolore"--that's not even a WORD in any language I know, so if they were going to pronounce it "multi-color" like English why didn't they just spell it the regular way? And even though I know I'm at the boutique to spend money on LV products, I'm still embarassed to be corrected by the SA's. Thoughts? Comments?

PS If you magically know how all these names are pronounced just by looking at them PLEASE give me your secret.
