Who knows? I learned real quick that that's the way Houston St. in NYC is pronounced too! Apparently it's the correct way. For example- In Kentucky we have a city named Versailles. Do we pronounce it Vers-eye? Nope, in good old KY it's Ver-sales. Oh yeah...

It's pronounced Hous-ton because the bag is named after the street in NYC and that's how it's pronounced, not after the place in Texas.
