The "Hip"

I love the Hip. From what I can gather it is the same thing as the NM LE Shoulder and is available in some of the 2010 colours with a price increase of $50.00.

Does anybody know if Bal even offered the original Shoulder style with the shorter strap in f/w 2009 or did the NM LE Shoulder replace that style?

I'm quite sure it is not right - 16" makes it longer than a city!

If you look on the Bal UK website it says 20cm x 15cm x 4cm which converts to approximately 8" x 6" x 1.5" which sounds a lot more like it.

Okay, I know no one has posted to this thread in a couple of months, but I just got a Hip and I'm immensely distracted by something I hadn't noticed prior to my buying the Hip. It appears as though there's something missing from the elements that we all have come to know and love in the design of a Balenciaga bag. Look at the 2 buckles on the lower corners of the Hip. Notice anything? There's no patch of leather behind the buckle!! I don't know if I'm describing this correctly, but look at another b-bag, like the First, the City, even the Makeup, which is so similar to the Hip -- they all have this pointy shaped patch of leather on the corners and the buckle sits on top of that patch of leather. I hope I'm making sense to someone out there. I'm SO DISTRACTED by this missing "design feature" on the Hip. Was it intentional? If so, WHY?! Those patches of leather are even on the Ticket, for Pete's sake. And not to drive the point into the ground, but they're also on the Makeup AND the Shoulder -- both of which is like a twin of the Hip! I'm baffled... Please chime in if anyone understands or has any opinion about this at all... Has anyone noticed this before me? Does it bother anyone?

I LOVE this style! Tillie thank you so much for posting those lovely pics of your Sister in Law modeling her stunning Giant Hips. What great color choices. They look incredible!

I have a question for anyone that has their Giant Hip handy. Could you check the rivet and tell me if it has a dot in the center? I of course posted this in AT this as well, but since there aren't all that many Hips out there yet I figured I'd check with some of you that have them.

Here's what I'm talking about:

Ohhh good eye Applecida! From the first time I saw this bag in pictures I felt like something didn't look "the same" but I wrote it off to the giant hardware being smaller than the bigger bags. Now that you mention it, I totally get it!!! I do wish the styling was the same but it doesn't make me love the bag any less. As much as I like bigger bags, I've always adored small cross body hands free styles for my keys, wallet, etc. that I can toss into my bigger bags when I need to carry more stuff around.

Just checked my black 2010 Hip (GSH) and it doesn't have a dot in the center of the rivet. I don't own any other b-bags with GSH, so I can't compare further. What year is your Hip from?

Thanks, Plushie, for your other comment about the missing corner patches of leather. I think we both need to stop examining our b-bags so closely... for our own sanity. LOL. :smile1:

Thanks for checking your Hip Applecida! Mine is actually an 09 LE Neiman Marcus Shoulder so I guess it's not technically a Hip. In the "Authenticate This" thread, dizzywizzy said she had the exact same one purchased from Neiman's and it had the dot. Just weird as I've never seen it. Anyone else?

Lol I think you're right about examining the bags so closely. Seems like they went the route of the coin purses, etc. with the no leather patch. I understand on the super small styles because maybe it would look crammed, but I think the patch would look great on the Hip. Oh well no biggie...still LOVE this bag!
