Yeah there's no harm taking it back to find out whether this is just the new iteration of the bag?

From all the listings I've seen on the websites, the strap length should be 111-112cm which is about 44 inches, which is what customer services may have meant as per @Digitiminimi hypothesis.

How tall are you? Take a pic wearing the bag crossbody if you don’t mind. If they did put the wrong strap, maybe they attached the strap that goes with the Lindy 26 or 30. Either way this would be a very big mistake. If so, you will have to part ways with this bag until another one comes. At least you’ll have priority, but maybe not the same color/leather.

I am 5”8 which I know is quite tall but I am just comparing to what I tried on last year. I don’t want to take it back to my SA as I have been asking after one for ages and he was so happy when he could offer it to me. I am going to Paris in an October so could ask them… pics to follow (apologies, I’m rubbish at taking photos!)

Yet a third hypothesis, you've gotten the Mini Lindy II, which seems to be a new iteration of the bag, which might be one with a shortened strap...
