@m45ha I like the 140s generally, but am not a big fan of the summer silk (which is now apparently the only weight they are going to use for 140s). To me it feels slippery and not at all luxurious, like the twill 140s. I agree that you need to play with some 140s in the boutique!
I agree that the twill lave is much better than the summer silk, but I may not be able to avoid that black Oiseaux...:heart::heart:

To answer everyone, yes, I can have scarves I’d like to see transferred but I feel there’s an unspoken pressure to purchase them. They’ve never come right out and told me so, but I just feel it. I’ve requested transfers in the past when I’m ABSOLUTELY SURE that I’m going to buy the scarf. But I don’t think that requesting a bunch of transfers just to look at them while I try to decide is proper etiquette. That’s the problem right there. So, yeah, at the end when I’ve seen all the possible CWs of a particular design and I’ve made a firm decision, I may request a transfer of a particular scarf that I absolutely know I want... @katriona Im totally with you on your observations for I’ve been thinking the same... Meanwhile, this sucks... Thanks so much, everyone!

I feel like I wouldn’t have a problem with getting a lot of things transferred, but my understanding is that most likely, one has to pre-pay (I have had older seasons transferred over without prepayment, but just ordered a new season scarf and had to prepay). If so, if you don’t take the scarf, you get the credit, right? (As in not the actual money back). Then the store is guaranteed a sale regardless... they shouldn’t mind. But I totally understand your reluctance too... it’s so annoying to be ordering things ‘blind.’

Well, my two cents is that the 140cm are beautiful and vibrant and such a substantial and dramatic size but I found them very difficult to work with. I don’t know if the fact that I’m 5’2” had to do with the feeling of being engulfed by the fabric, but I just found them so hard to tie! It’s like draping a blanket around my neck. As far as the gavroches, I own three and they are so adorable, but I find not reaching for them much. Maybe it’s that I need to practice more. And I’ve seen some people tie two gavs together in the cutest knots so I’ve yet to try that. I live in a hot, damp, tropical climate and it may seem contradictory, but the knots that I’ve tried with gavroches are so close to my neck that, while there is less fabric, it has felt more constricting and stifling... I’m sure that my opinions and traumas could change with more practice with these formats

I am 5’6’’, and I also find 140s a lot of fabric to work with. I can’t really wear them as a normal scarf with, say, a dress — I can theoretically use a shawl ring, but still... so much freaking fabric to handle. I can do a 140 mousseline ok, since it’s a lot less fabric really. But yeah, for ‘normal’ scarf wear, a 90cm is my preferred format.

However, I have been looking for more silk twill 140s as I have found I reach for them all the time on airplanes in the summer. I travel a lot, and while in the winter I usually have a cardigan or some such I can wear on the plane, in the summer, I would rather pack a silk shawl. I will also wear it in an Uber, in an air conditioned office, etc. I also like it for sun coverage when running out for, say, a coffee when I am too lazy to put on body sunscreen. These are pretty specific use cases though.

Wait, will they really do that? That is so weird, considering how many people buy the cashmere ones, and those are much thicker to begin with.

I agree with all your points, and can add some further comments. Apparently Canadians don't buy "brown" colourways according to my SA (so I suppose no chocolate patisserie for us!) - so these cw's are rarely/never ordered. Yes, my SA can do a worldwide search to bring it in but you need to pay full amount up front & since it usually takes 1 month+ to arrive if it's not suitable you just get a store credit, not a full refund. I am particularly dismayed for AW 2019 as apparently Canada did not order the cw's I want of Regard de l'Arctique, Dans Le Jardin de Leila CSGM, and the Kachinas carre washed! Thank goodness people post these cw IRL on tpf so I can see what they look like before I take the plunge to special order.

I can kind of understand the store manager’s (or whoever places an order) tactics here. Every market is different and no one wants to have unsold items that are ‘unpopular.’ At the same time, I wonder how many of these decisions are made out of laziness. ‘No brown scarves ever’ seems like a maxim someone decided on without considering there are lots of shades of brown etc.

My store is newer (Palo Alto) and seems to have good inventory of everything except for red SLGs. Every time I want a new Bastia, a Calvi, what have you, there are never any red ones, and red is actually my default colors for those items. The explanation I got it was that our store attracts a lot of Asian customers (both local and tourists), and they view red accessories as bad luck, so SLGs in those colors don’t sell and are as a result rarely ordered / sent over. I am not Asian myself (nor is the SA who told me), but I have lived in China before, and my understanding is that red is actually considered a lucky color, but maybe I am mistaken here.

Either way, the store has very few red items that are not bags or scarves. Which annoys me to no end, since I have to order them internally or buy them elsewhere.

I had never thought about using my 140 silk as "sunscreen" such a great idea in the summer time! Thank you!:flowers:

I think Moma meant they only produce one type of 140 silk weight, opposed to the various weights that were produced before.:flowers:

Any time :) I am very fair and while I am generally very good about applying and reapplying facial sunscreen, sometimes it is easier to just cover up my arms and shoulders...

I may have not expressed my thinking clearly. When I hear that the summer weight will be the only one used for 140s, I assume it is because it is lighter and thus easier to handle for many people. But that is surprising since the cashmere scarves are so popular that people are clearly not afraid to wear larger scarves that are thicker / warmer scarves. I am not sure if that is even a valid theory.

The thought of not being able to get Sweet Dreams from last season was giving me bad dreams so I popped into the boutique to have them order it for me. Since I was there, I checked out some of the new season’s offerings. Here are a few that I know have already been posted and maybe a few that have not? Anyway, I am kind of in love with the cream Index Palmarum. The pops of color against the cream backdrop offer an unexpected harmony and elegance that I find irresistible (though I was able to resist it for today, haha).

One of the SAs there said they’ll soon have access to a platform that will show every single cw of every scarf, along with the scarf stories, etc. I was surprised that they don’t already have that, but I guess the current system only shows what’s available to buy? I said it sounded like the all-en site that was taken down a while back but he said this was for staff use only. He was really, really nice. And that was so appreciated because I’ve been having a really, really rough day.

Love these on you, especially the cream Index Palmaria, and the Cosmographia! Wow!

Yup... I just don’t feel comfortable now requesting transfers as I used to. I feel that I’m trapped if I don’t like it when I see it, so I have to be absolutely sure. In the past my local H has also not ordered every single CW, but nothing like this time, where their selections are so ridiculously small. I honestly feel that scarves are not big sellers in our tropical climes and they’ve finally decided to cut back big time.

Great suggestions for wearing the 140s Anna!

What you have written is exactly how I feel, even as someone new to Hermes as of the very end of 2018. I was, however, kind of shocked at the difference in weight of the silks in my 140 Sieste au Paradis and the newer Carnaval des Oiseaux, the latter being much lighter, but the saturation of color in the latter is so intense that it is hard for me to tell the back of the scarf from the front, which is a good thing.
But...the Sieste au Paradis is also a summer twill...?
Is the Carnaval des Oiseaux even lighter?! :confused1:
