The story behind
The bolduc ribbon has been an Hermès signature since it was adopted by the house in 1949. The simple and elegant bolduc with its dotted border evoking the famous saddle stitch becomes, in the hands of Caty Latham, an intricate weave, a picture in a perfect square. The long, fine strips crisscross and interlace to conceal and reveal the carriage and groom playing hide-and-seek in this multitude of tiny squares. The surface appears to vibrate, catching the eye like a mosaic.

The story behind
In winter and early spring, the light of the Far North reflected off the snow and ice is of rare intensity. To protect their eyes, the Inuits invented a long visor and goggles with small holes or narrow slits, allowing only a tiny amount of light to penetrate. This scarf depicts a collection of 19th-century visors and goggles against a decorative background typical of the region around the Bering Strait. The visors from the lower Yukon, Alaska and Kodiak Island are adorned with ivory, the tail feathers of Arctic ducks or walrus whiskers, while the goggles in walrus ivory are between 500 and 2,000 years old.

The story behind
The Cape mountain zebra is a rare protected species found in the south-eastern provinces of South Africa. Alice Shirley’s design is modeled on a foal that has wandered off to explore the fynbos, the unique vegetation of the southernmost region of the country. It grows in poor soil, and is regenerated by the bush fires sparked by lightning in the dry season. In spring, the fynbos transforms into a fragrant, multi-colored carpet of flowers, a dreamlike vista. The artist has reproduced almost forty different plants to create a sumptuous setting for the little zebra.

The Story Behind
Leaving her hand running on paper in a movement that she herself calls "semi-automatic" and free from any hindrance, Florence Manlik expresses what dreams and deep thoughts harbor mystery. Harmonious intertwining is in negative on a vegetable background, a vision of the mind, an enigmatic composition made of flowers, plants, strange stones. With a gesture as light as precise, the designer composes, according to her own words, "floral and mineral elements, a shimmering party, psychedelic, traversed by a walk, a slow, infinite, hypnotic movement".

The story behind
Pierre Marie’s idea for this scarf came from the pages of a French cookery book published in 1873. Le Livre de pâtisserie was the fourth book by Jules Gouffé, the son a Parisian pastry chef famous for his pièces montées, whose shop was located on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, a stone’s throw from the house of Hermès. Soon his talent had earned him the title of “the apostle of decorative cuisine”. For Pierre Marie, these beautiful delicacies, amassed in a kind of culinary daydream, were irresistible. Towers of almond paste, pistachio croquembouches, decorative cake stands, colored sugars, nougatine, dessert creams and choux buns form an extravagant decor that pays tribute to the illustrator’s boundless imagination.

The story behind
The Émile Hermès collection includes numerous illustrated catalogues from the 19th century that were published by harness-makers and manufacturers of equestrian equipment to present their goods all over the world. Gianpaolo Pagni has chosen one such album as the inspiration for this collection of horse blankets. Using his renowned block-printing technique, he dresses the horses in a lively array of colors and motifs. The result is a brand new equestrian wardrobe of pop art patterns. As Pagni declares, the horses are “catwalk-ready!”
