Had to go with the older estrela model.. quality is superb!!! I kept the sully as well...

Yes, it can. But it may depend upon your height and if you're wearing bulky clothing. I almost always use the smaller straps as the longer strap seems to strain the bag.

I don't even have the long strap on my Estrela; I just use the short straps to carry on the shoulder.

I'm about 5'4". I'll try to get a modeling pic later with a winter coat (though I'm in California so not sure I have a real winter coat [emoji4])

No matter what your height I do not think the estrela nm could be used with the short straps on the shoulder with a winter coat.

Actually I was able to use the short straps with a fairly heavy wool coat. I'm terrible at taking modeling pix but hopefully these pix help. With winter coat and without.
