The Dumbest Reason You Ever Gave For Buying a Bag

Y’all, I’m OT, but I wanted to pop in and say….the barenia bag I bought *just because * it’s barenia…..was supposed to deliver two days ago. The tracking shows delivered to my front door but I did not find a package .

So, this has finally happened to me too. I’ve opened an investigation with UPS, talked to the seller, and Amex. I’m still holding out hope it will make its way back to me.

Any other bag I’d be happy with just the refund, but I really wanted this one:sad:

If and when she comes I’ll post a picture of my “dumb reason” bag. Just wanted to share with y’all since I can’t tell anyone in real life how I feel:frown:

Aw gosh :hugs: Your Dumb Reason bag has taken offense, that's all. She'll soon come round to you after realizing she's better off at home. I hope everything turns out well in the end! Sorry you're having to go through this!

The ultimate reason I use for buying bags is because they make me happy, so it's quite disheartening when they cause stress instead. Sending good energy so it turns up soon.

Thank you so much @indiaink and @leechiyong for your encouraging words! And there is magic from TPF because this afternoon, my package magically appeared at my door! I think it was delivered to a neighbor who only had time to bring it to my house just today. I didn’t see who it was, my husband saw there was a package out there late afternoon. Good people do exist y’all!! Thank you!!!!!!!

And, as promised, here she is with her sister in noir clemence. I’m thrilled with her condition and cleanliness. She was a bit smushed so I stuffed her with paper to regain shape on the bottom and sides.

Thank you all again for sharing in my sadness, and now in my joy:drinks:!!!

Current excuse:

Because I'm on call this weekend.
Used to be when my daughter was an infant, I’d buy a bag whenever my husband pissed me off.

I bought a lot of bags during that time
Deeply relate to these. I don’t buy because my husband pisses me off, but I do get a fiercely strong urge to buy a bag after I’ve either worked or mommed for 24 hours straight. Sleep deprivation for any reason (work or infant) makes the threshold for purchase much lower. I’m more disinhibited when I’m tired than when I’m buzzed. Sometimes I even get the urge to buy because my husband is on call, which means I’m taking seven days of night float for the baby.

Not sure this is a truly dumb reason, but I got my first Goyard after a boozy brunch. Would I have done it eventually? Nonzero chance, but the lubrication made it a certainty.

I am also guilty of buying for imaginary situations. This is also not new at all — I’m mid-thirties now and I remember buying bags for bar and bat mitzvahs when I was 13, even though my friends were starting to age out of them already. I’m a long-standing card-carrying member of the Dumb Excuse Club.

I’ve got a few…

A few years ago, Coach outlet had a Wizard of Oz collection. There were three Toto items-a mini bag, a wallet, and a scarf. I had to have all the Toto items because Toto looks like my dog, even though I don’t use scarves, the mini bag didn’t even fit my phone (making it not functional for me), and I don’t switch out my wallets (and I have one I’m perfectly happy with). To be fair, my husband actually gifted me the wallet and bag so I technically didn’t buy them, but I definitely told him I wanted them. I still have all of the items. I sometimes tie the scarf to a bag when I remember to. I have used 5hr wallet a few times when I use a smaller bag since it’s a smaller wallet. The mini bag is essentially decorative storage for smaller items now (but actually, my phone is now smaller so I should see if maybe it might work for me as a bag now). But basically, I have all these items that are almost never used but I had to have because of my dog (and honestly, I have no plans to ever get rid of them).

I bought the Louboutin Paloma tote because I felt like it was “me in a bag.” As I said at the time, the bag is fairly “normal”/classic straight on with the black but then has this unexpected sass/edge on the sides with the red, leopard, and studs. I felt like that described me-fairly average/normal/boring upon first meeting me but with interests and a more sassy/wild/edgy side that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from me. “Me in a bag”, so I had to have the bag.

The last one is silly but also the most legitimate to me. I was looking for a red bag and came across one from a Korean designer. I was already hooked because I’m Korean myself, and the bag I was looking at had a name almost identical to the name of a cousin of mine who passed. We were super close-the closet thing I’ll ever have to a sister-so this bag felt “meant to be” to me. Honestly, I was probably just digging way too deep for an excuse to buy the bag, but it makes me think of her every time I use it so no regrets.
